My all-time favorite 1911 format .22 LR is the Kimber Rimfire Target. Loads of fun every time I shoot it!

By all accounts I've read, they're of high quality for the price, as one would expect.

Thanks for the link, I bought mine 2nd hand and the manual was missing.

Different direction but I put a .22 Kadet conversion on my CZ 75, nice set up. All steel and last shot hold open. Larry
Regarding my Marvel conversion, my metal "Colt" magazines needed to have the feed lips adjusted. After that, it has sailed along. The plastic mags worked fine as is. No doubt that the Marvel isn't for everyone.

The Marvel Precision Unit 1 is a fantastic .22 Conversion.

I purchased the Browning 1911-22 when pursuing this same conquest. While it was a nice gun, I couldn't get over the size and I always had issues with FTF and brass kicking back in people's faces when shooting. It was a little frustrating, along with the small frame and sight distance I had a difficult time shooting the kinds of groups I hoped to see. Fast forward to this year, I local gun store/range had two Kimber Target 1911 .22's for sale that were suppose both formally rental guns for sale. One had some obvious wear but the other looked brand new. I walked out with the brand new looking one with case, mag and paperwork for $350. While it is sensitive to ammo, it loves my favorite ammo! Mini mags and CCI Standard velocity both run like champs. Great sights, trigger and reliability (with good ammo). Norma Match ammo (really heavily lubed) performed so poorly it was a FTE or FTF almost every round. Just amazing the difference in performance between two seemingly similar .22 rounds.

Get the real deal, a Kimber 22 LR target upper Kimber America | Rimfire Target Conversion Kit for any 45 ACP frame you now own. I have mine on a SA frame and am very happy with it.

I bought an 85% Browning 1911-22 Commander for my grandson. Liked it enough that I bought an 85% 1911-380 Commander for myself. I then bought a Browning 85% .22 Commander slide and slide stop for the .380, making it a convertible. I usually shoot it as a .22.

Build quality is decent. Finish is cruddy - they flake. Will eventually need to be cerakoted. Sights are cruddy. All in all, I like them, like the 85% size, and would do it again.

I have a Kimber I'm running a Sig branded GSG conversion on. It works OK but the slide is very soft. Don't use the slide lock as a release! Also, as previously mentioned, the sights are very cheap. I'm not really complaining as I got the 22 kit as a closeout somewhere and it was pretty darn cheap. Definitely worth what I paid. I did have to take out the series 80 safety parts (?) that the Kimber didn't have but that was easy enough. I also have a Ruger MkIII 22/45 and a stainless/stainless MkIV Hunter. I have a trigger kit in the Hunter. I can't imagine a much better action than what it has now. Far more accurate than what I'm capable of. I don't know in what way a MkII could be better, especially considering the MkIV's ease or assembly and disassembly. I'd recommend a MkIV 22/45 lite of some sort (many options) with a trigger kit. Worry about a 1911 later.

Being the OP started this post 4 years ago wonder what he went with...
Btw I have two Colt Ace 22's, both are neat but pricey and prone to dirty floating chamber induced jams.
Best .22 I have ( not including revolvers)is my old Browning Buckmark which has been running flawlessly for over 20 years.
The new S&W M&P .22 has been running great for the past 4 years as well.

I have to agree with Dave Brown. I also have a Kimber Rimfire Target. Without a doubt, it gets shot more than all the handguns AND rifles that I own. I shoot steel plates on our property. It is more fun than any other thing that comes to mind, at least at my age!

A good Woodsman or Ruger would make a fine first .22 auto.

I have a Kimber .22 Target conversion slide on a JPE 1911 frame. It took a bit of hand fitting in terms of the slide release but I blame the JPE frame for that. As it is now it’s extremely reliable and while not bullseye match winning accurate, it’s as accurate as the average Ruger or Buckmark.

And not only that...the last time he posted in the Forum was four months ago. I'm willing to bet that this is a pretty much "done" topic.

Here is Harrydale's post from 8-28-18:

"Just as an update. I ended up buying a Walther made, Colt licensed 1911-22 rail gun. Gave it to my Grandson for his birthday and so far he loves it and has put about 500 rounds thru it with only about 3 FTF's. So everybody is happy."

I had a Colt .22 conversion years ago. It shot OK. Wound up selling it.

My daddy's friend left him a number of guns when he died. He had been a target shooter at one time. When my dad died, I received his and his friend's guns. Among them was a Ruger MK I Target model. One of the jewels his friend had was a 1939 Colt Service Ace. It's a real good shooter.

I have bought and sold most of the current crop of 1911'ish 22 offerings and have been disappointed in them all. I did keep a Sig branded gun, as well as the smaller Browning model. What I do like are the Colt made 22 conversion units. I have five of them now, one for each of my grand kids. I fit them all to their own steel full size 1911 frames. I also have a Ruger MK IV Lite stored away for each of them too.

I have the " Rail Gun " version . I like it , and it serves as my general plinking .22lr semiauto , in addition to 1911 platform understudy .
