Default Yet another Colt OP

Couple days ago I picked up a post - war (WW 2) Colt Official Police. I paid $500 for it. This one has a six inch barrel. Serial number gives it a DOB in 1947. For a few years after the war Colt put plastic grips on their handguns which they euphemistically called "Colt Wood". People hated them and threw them away by the ton. As a result they aren't very easy to find anymore. This one has them. I've taken them off because plastic gets brittle, but I am keeping them. So I now have three Official Police models and a pre-war Officer Model with 6" heavy barrel. I feel like I should be in a Bogart movie. I like the Official Police and compared to other Colt models (especially the Snake models) prices are still very reasonable. I also like that 38 Special revolvers don't seem to be as beat up as the magnums and 44/45 caliber models.

The view of those stocks in your photos isn’t ideal, but to me those look a lot more like the war-time, solid chocolate-brown Commando stocks than the swirly reddish-brown post-war Coltwood. Attached are three images I borrowed from the Colt Forum a while ago for reference purposes (apologies to whoever’s copyright I’m disrespecting, but it’s for a good cause )

1. War-time brown plastic
2. Early swirly Coltwood
3. Late swirly Coltwood

The shrinking and cracking issue only applies to the post-war Coltwood, not the war-time brown plastic; those Commando stocks have held up better than most wooden Victory stocks.

The ones that came with my OP are defiantly the all brown plastic grips. Good stuff to know. Thanks for that.
