Default It's Easier to get Forgiveness than Permission

I have wanted a Sig 226 for many years but I just wouldn't spend the money. A few months ago I was notified that the Bishop was moving me to a new pastoral appointment. Realizing gun shops would not be so easy to find, I decided if I wanted a 226, I'd best get moving. So, today I took a couple of pistols that I just had never warmed up to and headed to a LGS whose owner I'd known since 1995. He had a plethora of Sigs in the case! I found a nice Legion in 9mm which is what I wanted. Had a gift card from Christmas I used. Ended up even on the gun. Cool!

Had to drive over to town to make a hospital visit, so ... I took my new gun w/ me. After the visit, I dropped by a indoor range and had a nice time shooting. Had two 100 rd. boxes of the aluminum cased 9mm ammo. I know that's not a lot of shooting, but I was in a hurry since we are packing to move on Wednesday. Really nice to have three magazines. Trigger is a short reset ... also a very good idea! Sights are tritium. The rear tubes are not so large. The front one is a whopper, big as a softball! Did most my firing at 12 yds. simply b/c the fans on the range made the targets move so much that that was about as far as I could run the target out and it hang as least somewhat still. Had to kind of time things to shoot when it was swinging in the middle. On each target I fired five shots one handed then three strings of 15 rounds. Best run was 3 in the 9 ring and the rest in the 10/X ring (B-27). Next best was 6 in the nine ring with the rest in the 10/X ring.

Got home ... decided to tell my wife what I'd done. And she said it was fine! How cool is that? Told me she was glad I'd bought the pistol, that it was better than trying to take some worn stuff and keep trying to make it work. Guess she's right! Of course, that's JMHO!!! Right? Right! Well, got to knock off for the evening. 5 Am will come early tomorrow morning! Got to finish getting ready for the truck. Sincerely. bruce.

Sounds to me like you have two keepers there. The other one is your new gun.

Yea, but it's more fun to sneak them into your collection than to ask for either permission or forgiveness.

BTW, Most wives know this first hand and apply it to their handbag and shoe collecting regularly. ;-)

I'll be praying for you as you transition to a new congregation. I've served the same rural church for 34 years, but remember the unsettled feeling coming to a new place of service. As Baptists, we serve at the pleasure of the congregation and in some instances the turnover rate is high. I've been blessed to be here this long.

I am an unabashed fan of Sigs and own several, with the "crown jewel" being a P 210. I've been drooling over the new 210's thinking a new one to shoot would let me put the older one in the safe for preservation's sake.

Shoot that Legion with gusto and blessings on the new assignment!

Bro. Dave

My wife and I have a longstanding arrangement, I don't count shoes in the closet, she doesn't count snubbies in the safe...

Default Happy day!

Nothing like getting what you REALLY want. I was about to settle for something less than my 686 but stretched and haven't regretted it since.

"Easier to ask forgiveness than get permission" from a different perspective. Several years ago I had a Sig 226 and as it happened my wife shot it very well. She eventually used it as she qualified for her permit. A short time later I sold the Sig to a friend without telling her. I'm still waiting for forgiveness. Womenz don't forget easily.

I'm happy for you and all, of course. But I was sure hoping we would be blessed with a picture of that new Sig.

Congratulations on the new position, the Sig and a wonderful wife!

Yes, I sold two Ruger single action Vaquero's in .357 that were my wife's (that's what she thought anyway). She wasn't using them; I figured she did't want them.

That was probably about 15 years ago. Nope, they don't forget.

Congrats on the new Sig and the understanding spouse. Last year when all the Gander Mountains were closing they were blowing out police trade in Sigs in .40 S&W for some very reasonable prices. I almost bought a P226 DAK for about $375 + tax, but wound up with a very nice P229 for $425 + tax.

I probably should have bought both of them...

Very much appreciate the the encouraging responses. This is a major promotion that I did not expect. I was not as successful in this current appointment as I hoped and prayed for. It was not due to failing to work. Surprised at the promotion. My District Superintendent said the Bishop and Cabinet knew my record of service. I thank God for His using me over the years. I pray God that this new appointment will provide opportunity to be used of Him.

About to go pick up the truck. The next week is going to be "interesting." Will move tomorrow ... drive 266 miles to new church ... unload and then begin meetings w/ committees, etc. Can do pictures w/ iPhone. No idea how to post them. No internet ... just hotspot on phone. Sincerely. bruce.

Great trade...... IMO ..... even up; what's the wife going to complain about?..... one less gun to pack and move!!!!

I've had two 226s over the years... great guns..... but in the Sig line I "prefer" the 220 in .45 and 228/9 in 9mm over the 226

Congratulations on your new 226! Isn’t it nice to finally get something like that that you have really wanted?

And good luck to you with your new appointment!

"Easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission " tells me you have broken the solemn, sacred, unbreakable commandment "Don't get caught."
So endeth the lesson.........

Boy, I thought I was king of bonehead moves. My girlfriend fell in love with my 3" Model 65. Had to put Crimson Trace grips on for her. It was one of my favorites and my first 3" revolver. It resides in the safe waiting on her to go shooting about twice a year. I've since bought me another one to match along with a 6-7 more 3" revolvers. I blame it on her. If she had just left my 3" 65 alone, then I would have been too busy shooting it to go shopping for more. Yea Right!!
