Default Sig 239 out of CA jail

Got this baby home today. It's a .40 with 5 magazines. I bought it unfired from an individual 10 days ago for $750.

I ordered a 357 Sig barrel from BarSto. They seem to be the only source anywhere now that Sig has discontinued this fine model. I'm betting BarSto will also probably drop this model soon.

I had another one for about 9-10 years now bought as a 357 sig. It has a German frame. I kept my eyes peeled for another when I learned Sig no longer makes it. I also accumulated about 15 357 magazines for it for $5 ea. on clearance at a local chain store a few years ago.

Congrats on the acquisition. I have been tempted by the P239 a few times but haven’t purchased one yet.

WOW you did good. Considering you are in California, you did Fantastic

The P239 in 357SIG is a favorite of mine, I have been shooting this combination for more than 20 years now. Though I did not do as good on the spare magazines as you did

Did you call SIG about a barrel? Quite often inventory remains after something is removed from the website. Also just because something is not on a website does not necessarily mean it has been discontinued.

You might want to keep your eyes open for a factory 9MM barrel with or without threads. The P239 357/40 platform is the only SIG that can run all three calibers without needing a third party conversion barrel.

Additionally, 9MM ammunition feeds perfectly in the 357SIG magazines due to that narrow nose on that mag. You do not even need to change the recoil spring.

I shot a factory 9MM TB in my P239s to play with the suppressor for more then 1000 rounds so far

If you want one better get the next one you see. At a fair price of course. But that may get hard to find as it's demand grows. They're an awesome little pistol. I think of it as a straight column 229 compact.

I discovered it has night sites after I got it home. Never thought to look when I checked it out when I bought it, ha ha. I must have missed it in the ad.

Here in CA there's a fever going around to over-inflate the asking price of any handgun, esp off roster. This is the third good deal I took advantage of in the CG Marketplace. The other was an HK USP45c and a 629-3 S&W over the last 2 years.

Yea, Wolff doesn't make spare mag springs for the 239/357. I sucked them up. I fell in love the 357 sig in '96 with a BarSto 357 barrel in a Glock 22. I think a good shooter could easily drive tacks with it.

I spent several hours in Google trying to find a factory 357 barrel. I won't deal with ebay or Gunparts. BarSto is a safe bet if you don't mind the wait. I ordered it right after I bought the gun. As a matter of fact, trying to find anything 239 related is an exercise in futility. SRT, forget it.

I'm all 9mm'd out with a Ladysmith and 226.

Lastly, I'm green with envy over your collection. Awsome!

Those are some beauties. I’ve only got one, in .357, but it’s in my EDC rotation.

Well all be darned. My BarSto just left Sturgis SD a few hours ago. I would have been happy with the factory, but BS is worth the price and wait anyway.

I feel bad for you folks in CA

OK, this is going to be cruel

I have been a 357SIG aficionado since first being introduced to the cartridge in 1993.

I believe that the P229 and P239 platforms really shine when paired with this cartridge. I might have as many P229s sitting around

Not to say that I don't love my S&Ws as well, but for production guns there has only been the SIGMA and the M&P.
I own both and really like the M&P as far as I like any striker fired plastic pistol.
There was a tool room sample Shorty 357 built, but it is a one off. I also have some HKs . . . .

The grandaddy of fun when it comes to 357SIG firearms is the MP5/357 sub machine gun

I can put 32 rounds of 357SIG ammunition on target in under 2 seconds.
However, I have run LOTS of ammunition through my 357SIGs over the decades

Sorry about the following video
Unfortunately I had never noticed that someone had moved my camera. I suppose I can re-shoot that one day

I have taken a dozen or so Forum Members out to play with that one when the were in South Florida on Business.
They always walk away with a big grin

BarSto makes a great barrel. I had them make one for my SIG X5 since SIG was not importing the ones made in Germany

I'm a fan of the .357 sig.my first was a hk usp compact then a sig 229. I put off buying a .357 bbl for the .40 s&w 239 because I knew they were readily available.the first time knew they were discontinued was when I read this post this morning.Didn't expect to get a bbl from sig but I called anyway.I was very surprised when the man said he had 1 left,so thanks for the info.

Glad to see you got it. I expect my BarSto Fri or Mon. I was thinking it would be mid-July.

10mm is my other love.

I'm not an AR owner. They keep getting hammered here. I expect them to start looking at my 581 series Mini 14. I have friends/co-workers who are big into ARs and I'm p'oed big time at CA for them.

Didn"t they make an MP5 in 10mm? That'd be my baby if I had the bank account of Bill Gates and I lived in a free state.

I have to laugh at those youtube vids of 239/9mm reviews. Most of them are 9mm anyhow. They complain about the weight. The 239 is a 40/357 sig gun, not 9mm. Same with a 1911. Whatever floats their boat I guess.

Fell into a circa 2007 , P-239 a few weeks back, for $400. Originally a .357 gun, with 2 mags. As well as a pair of factory .40 mags and a conversion barrel of unknown manufacture.

Now to find at least one more .357 mag! I am NEVER on the positive end it seems , when they stop building magazines. Buy my Smith 1006..... and mags immediately dry up...never to be built again.

Finally find a nice P-239 and same issue! I can't win.

An MP5/10 you say

Yes it was developed for the FBI way back when they were adopting 10MM Auto for their standard sidearms. Just over 1400 were delivered. Most are still in service and other agencies bought some as well. The FBI never moved away from these. Federal has provided full power 190 grain JHPs to the FEDs for decades now

We have been working on an AR style, 10MM Auto, SMG to replace the aging MP5/10 inventory. We have done Carbines, short barrels and an integrally suppressed version. They are a direct impingement design and use Glock magazines. We have subsonic 240 grain JSP ammunition for the suppressed versions.

You can get Wolff springs for most S&W gen3 and b4, at least the last time I ordered. Use the .40 mags for practice in your 239/357. I heard it's not recommended for serious bz.

Nice find btw on the 239. $400, wow. My first 239/357 was purchased as unfired, slide and barrel hardchromed, trijicons, and a German frame-$580 here in CA of all places. I bought the seller's German 220, same hardchrome and Trijicons for 650 a week before. It had 69 rounds fired he said. But the thought of that 239 really kept knawing away at me until I caved in.

My username/signature is a play on 10mms, eight of them in my possession. 1006 is one of them. I bought the Kimber 10mm after I joined S&WF.

edit for pic of first 239, bought in '08

Congrats. I own two of these fine weapons, one in .357 and the other in 9mm. The .357 is definitely a little "whippy."

Doesn't seem to be a lot of love here for the .40 version of this gun. Good collection you got there.

One concern I have about the 9mm is that my HK45c USP is lighter than the 239 both empty. The HK might be slightly more both loaded but I can't tell the apparent difference.

I picked up a good but used P239/40 with three factory mags. I’ve since bought two more 40 SW mags and a Sig 357 barrel. The barrel drops in and shots just fine using the 40SW mags - no issue at all with feeding or jamming. The 239/40 is my EDC but I’m warming up to the 357. Great little gun.

Bought my Sig P239 in 40S&W a long time ago. Used it qualify for my CCW classes and when it came time for renewals it came through with flying colors. Since mine only came with two mags decided a few extra wouldn't hurt. When asked how many mags I wanted I told them 4 and out comes the clerk with 4 brand new P239 40 S&W mags. $45 bucks a pop still took all 4. The leather mag holsters for the P6 will easily hold the P239 magazines. Seems I went kinda crazy when the P6 came out. Extra magazines, about 3-4 different types of holsters, and of course the holsters. Love my P6 as it's just the right size for me. I could have had a Swiss Sig pistol cannot remember the model except it was in357 Sig and didn't want another cartridge to reload for. Not one of my more better moves. Frank

My BarSto 357 sig barrel came in today. Yep, don't fit. It is semi-drop in, but still a little too tight. I'll post a pic (yea, I know, pics or it didn't happen) after I get it back from the gunsmith. I think it just needs a very tiny bit taken off.

I'm actually warming up a little to the .40. The ammo seems to me to be much better than when it first came out. Back in the '90s I was unmerciful bad-mouthing it. It almost killed my beloved 10mm.

Frank
My new 239/40 came with five .40 mags. The place that did the ppt had 3 for sale, but 5 is more than enough for a barrel I don't intend to use. One .40 mag came with the 357 I bought in '08 (or 9?) Never tried it with the Sig round.

You didn't go "kinda crazy" with all that stuff. That's perfectly normal.

Those guys don't screw around, do they? It's not only a deterrent, it's a statement.

Are you sure about that?

I don't recall hearing about it and ALL the images on Google are of the State Troopers carrying suppressed 9MM MP5s

This article is from 2003 so they might have changed calibers since then

BTW, I love the look. It has to be intimidating to a wrongdoer

And it is great that they are concerned enough to protect the hearing of the Citizens of Mass by using suppressors

Relative to Logan, last few times through there, no long guns seen. Since the 9/11 hijackers launched from blue-r states, the post event law enforcement response was significant. I recall Logan in 2002 was very well staffed, with 2-3 officers in each departure area plus still the National Guard then. Hard to get dropped off because all the State Police cars out front blocking the lanes or parked on the sidewalks (probably more tripped flyers than attacks prevented...).

Last few years, a few Mass. State cars out front but only occasional Trooper in the terminal. I do not recall long guns either.

Was in La Guardia last year. Lots of NYS Troopers, many with long guns. I was absolutely terrified should shooting develop, as I counted five different overtly-armed agencies there. I have zero faith that they could or would adequately coordinate. Recent LAX and Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood Airport shootings showed how poor law enforcement coordination comes out badly for the inured. Who knew Broward County couldn’t get it right, esp. before Parkland reinforced the tragedy.

To the original thread topic, I had a 9mm P239 that I never felt much love for. Totally different story with a mid-80s P225 - loved the 225 and the size/weight differential between is an effective non-issue.

Not a big deal. They say semi-fit may sometimes need some minor adjustments. I'll request a little sloppier for function reliability over target quality. I know, that defeats the purpose of getting a BarSto barrel in the first place. Problem is I thought they were the only source at this time, and a 239 isn't considered a target gun to begin with.

edit:One thing your going to like about the 357 barrel is it's full chamber support.

Get a 239 in 357 sig and you won't complain. May be somewhat difficult to find now.

I thought I'd drag this out of the archives and announce I just ordered a Crimson Trace rubber laser grip for my 239 from Midway. They have several left, 10 IIRC, for $180 & change/clearance price if anyone else is interested. Still haven't had the BarSto fitted. Been too busy with work and other projects. I'll get it to the gunsmith soon.
