Default Choke Tube Info

I have a Mossberg 20 gauge pump tactical shotgun that needs to be threaded for choke tubes.

I am asking for recommendations for where to send the barrel for the work.
Would prefer to have it threaded to take tubes from whoever makes the tubes for Mossberg, or Remington.
Don't want hard to find replacement tubes that have to come from a specialty maker. Want tubes that can be bought from Cabelas, Bass Pro, etc.

Briley manufacturing is the preeminent shop for installing choke tubes.

It’s your money and your gun, but I wouldn’t invest money doing that sort of work on a Mossberg or any tactical shotgun.

Their utility is narrow and they’re entry level guns at best.

Darned near any shop with a 'smith in it can do it right quick and at a pretty low cost. Maybe one of their most often used services.

Why put choke tubes in a "tactical" shotgun? I convert my 870 from a bird gun with 26" barrel and interchangeable choke tubes to a tactical home defense shotgun by changing barrels. The tactical barrel is an old 870 barrel that I cut to 20", thus the modified choke went bye-bye. You are not going to make a bird gun out of a Tactical shotgun as easily. Briley here in Houston is tops, but I'd leave the shotgun as is and look for an O/U if you want to hunt or take up clay sports.

You can always purchase another barrel that is factory threaded and in the length you want for your gun. Probably wouldn't be much more than having the current barrel threaded.

I can recommend this guy. He doesn't have a website, this is his contact info:

Came across him on some shotgun forums and had him do some work on a Remington 870 barrel, cutting it down, choke tube threading, and lengthening the forcing cone. Nice work, quick turnaround.

A good gunsmith to cut and fit and supply 3 choke tubes may cost you more than a new Mossberg.

I already have expensive sporting shotguns. This is to be used as a general-purpose gun to be carried in a vehicle constantly. I want the tubes because modified choke usually shoots slugs and buckshot the best for me, and if I have the opportunity to shoot starlings, pigeons, or crows on short notice, a modified or full choke capability is very useful.

I wouldn't bother sending it out. Any decent gunsmith around can do that work. I prefer Winchokes. Easy to find. Easy to change. The small extension beyond the barrel protects the muzzle.
