Default K6S: First Range Impressions

I was waiting on the sun early this morning so I could dirty-up my pair of Kimber K6S revolvers, DCR & CDP. I ran 150 rounds total thru the pair, 50 Rounds Black Hills .38 Special 148 Grain Match Wadcutter, 50 Rounds Winchester .38 Special +P 125 Grain Jacketed Hollow-Point, 50 Rounds Hornady.38 Special 125 Grain XTP Jacketed Hollow-Point. On a side-note, the Winchester Load is marked +P, the Hornady Load is not, and yet, to my "feel", the Hornady was just as stout as the Winchester. Go figure. I like both these loads a lot. I can shoot them rapidly very well, and both shoot accurately out of all my snubs. I also like carry ammo that I can practice with and still eat the same day.

Cutting to the chase, there weren't any issues or concerns. The sights, at least for me, were dead-on. At 10 yards, standing, two-hand hold, firing controlled pairs and triple-taps, both pistols shot point of aim/point of impact. Baseball size, center mass grouping came easy. The trigger, ah yes the trigger, is possibly the best double action only trigger on an out-of-the-box, mass production, self-defense, snub revolver. At least it felt that good to me.

In contrast to my beloved keepers, AirLite and Airweight, the extra weight of the K6S pair made them a downright pleasure to shoot. That 6th round was nice too. For my eyes, the three dot tritium sights on the CDP were clear and easy to pick up in the bright sunlight. The bright, crystal clear, red fiber optic front sight on the DCR is the best I've used, again, at least for my eyes. Both pistols felt really comfortable in my hands throughout the range session.

Will I be getting rid of my AirLite & Airweight? No freakin' way. In-pocket, on-ankle, they reign supreme. These K6S will start seeing some IWB carry very soon though. AirLite on ankle, AirWeight in pocket, K6S at 4 O'clock, good to go.

I came away from this first range outing with the K6S very pleased. So far, so very good. Now it's time for cleanin'em up.

Very interesting write up on a couple of beautiful revolvers.
I've got my eye on that 3" barrel model they came out with recently.
