Way back in September of 1978, I bought a brand new Dan Wesson 15-2VH with an 8" barrel. It was on sale and it cost me a whopping $200. Some years later, I obtained a 4" barrel for it at an additional cost of $90. Still have all the receipts, box, tools and papers that it came in. It is the only revolver I have that is not a Smith & Wesson, but at least it is a "Wesson". And a darn good one at that.

I had a friend who had one with four barrels, 2 4 6 & 8” and 2 grips

The 8” was scoped and had a bipod attached

The thing was, he insisted on changing barrels on the firing line table, costing us precious time

And he sold it to an unknown without even mentioning it to me or giving me a chance, I was quite unhappy with him for that.

Fine firearms, I have a couple, most accurate big bore hand guns I have.

That was the sidearm of detective Katy Mahoney from Lady Blue. I might be the only forum member that likes and remember that show. Dan Wessons always seem to have a great finish to them.

I got turned onto the DW 15-2 by the old tv show "Vega$". Robert Urich played the role of Dan Tanna, a private detective armed with a 6 inch DW 15-2HV. I found a local man selling his DW, it turned out to be a 15-2 with an 8 inch barrel. From a local gun shop, I ordered a 6 inch HV barrel. I shot that revolver quite a bit and it was my first 357 Magnum.

I ended up trading it away, but I now have a 15-2 with a 4 inch HV barrel. Had I not tried to mimic Dan Tanna and instead bought a 4 inch HV barrel, I doubt that I would have ever traded it. The 4 inch heavy shroud just balances so well in my hands.

Very nice. Dan Wesson was always a dream gun as a younger fellow back in the day. Still is. Very very good revolvers. Best friend joined the Marines out of high school and bought a new Python and a new DW. I liked the DW way more. (of course my highly tuned SW27 beat em both but it had lots of money put into it too)

Nice Wesson you got there. They are built like tanks and or Rugers! I have a ported 4 inch in 44mag and is my go to gun for making the Big booms. Enjoy

The blue on my 44 DW puts the blue of my Gold Cup a distant second place.
My .357 is stainless and they both shoot like a house afire.They are great guns.And have you seen the price tag of a new one!

In the 1980s I would occasionally leave the Peoples Republic of New York and visit my brother who lived in Miami. Back then Florida residents could legally buy handguns just about anywhere. I remember a very fancy department store, lots of independent gun shops, hardware stores...

One LGS (down in Homestead) was a big dealer in Dan Wesson's. The proprietor was friendly, and wiped away the drool I left behind after each visit.

A Country Boy Can Survive

I just bought my first 15-2 8 inch and I was wondering about the manufacture date of it. Mine is a 105xxx serial number and there is one in the DW registry close to it that dates to 1978. Is there any chance your 1978 serial number is close to it too?

edit - here's mine. I stuck a patridge front sight on it tonight. I really am starting to love the look of these things

She was the female Dirty Harry, who actually received pointer from Eastwood on how to Handel a gun. The show was pulled after just 13 episodes due to violence. Some scenes can be found on you tube taking on four bank robbers in the series pilot.

The Patridge front sight looks perfect on 8 inch or longer barrels.

The Dan Wesson 22 gave the chance to be like Maxwell Smart
The trouble is that my rig is bigger than Max's revolver setup and mine is not as quiet

The Dan Wesson was actually designed by Karl Lewes who aso designed the Colt Mark III action and the Browning Lever Rifle.
You see few for sale because those of us who have them, keep them.

My own Model 22-VH4 is my favorite .22 revolver, even over my S&W Model 18 with 3 Ts!
The last .22 snubby barrel assembly I saw sell went for nearly what I paid for my gun! I keep looking!

Serial # on my gun is 183xxx. Not very close, but I have no idea how many guns DW may have manufactured that year. Enjoy your "new" one!

Ha! September of 1978 is when I bought my first Dan Wesson, a Model 15 with an 8" ventilated barrel (not heavy) for $160 from Southwest Shooters Supply in Oklahoma City. Likely it was September 23, because that is the first Saturday after I turned 21. Most guys went and bought liquor and got drunk on it when they turned 21, I bought a gun!

I used it when I first started shooting metallic silhouettes, but the .357 was marginal on the 200m rams so I went to a .44 magnum Ruger Super Blackhawk with a 10-1/2" barrel. Eventually I also bought a Dan Wesson in .44 magnum with a 10" ventilated barrel and a 6" VH.

I've also acquired a few more .357 barrels and another .357 frame. Here is my original with a 15" barrel, and the newer frame with a 2-1/2" barrel.
