Default Weekend find

Local ad popped up Thursday on facebook marketplace for a copy paper box with misc ammo for $25. Jumped on it before the ad got deleted and set up a time. Got to the house and they were loading a Uhaul. Made some small talk and warmed them up. It was obvious by the price of the ammo and how she talked she just wanted rid of it as they leaving Sunday morning for South Texas (we are in Michigan). The ammo box had .40 s&w so I asked if she had any pistols and she said she sold them a few weeks prior. So I asked next about long guns. They were still in the basement and she wanted them gone before Sunday as she did not want to take them with but didnt know anyone locally that wanted them or how to move them. So, Out came 6 long guns hidden in various spots in the basement all in hard cases. I gave them a ten minute once over and said I would call Friday and see if we could work out a deal. Did my research Friday and went back in the evening. We talked again a minute, I made an offer and she happily accepted.

These guns were her Fathers who was in middle stage Alzheimers/Dementia and had recently loaded them all, had them lined up on the bed as he thought there were people in the house. She was moving him and her daughter back home so they could get him set up in a place that could watch and care for him.

That Alzheimers/Dementia part of the story hits home as my wife is a nurse in a lock down Alzheimers/Dementia unit.

I wished them well on their trip as I know the money will pay for their gas and probably some meals.

I walked away with a box of misc ammo.
-Marlin model 36A short magazine w/scope
-Marlin model 36A long magazine w/scope
-Wards Westernfield .22 tube fed bolt action
-Wards Westernfield 12g with checkered stock and chromed/polished parts. (Never seen a deluxe model Wards before)
-Iver Johnson 16g single shot champion
-H&R .410 single shot topper 48 with a broken plastic trigger guard
-Millet red dot scope new in box
-Vintage Weaver K3 El Paso scope on rings and rail
-Nikon Sprint II binoculars

Here is the gang all cleaned up. Had to get into the bluing on the left side of the barrel on the model 36a long mag because of the rust.

Thanks for the time to read the abridged version of my find. Here’s some pics!

Yeah me too. Old Marlins are a score. With hindsight now I see what I should have grabbed back in my "good old days" Thanks for sharing.

Great find and purchase. It's doubtful we'll ever see lever action rifles of this quality produced in the United States again. They are now a part of our culture and history.

I see 40SW ammo but no pistol. She must of kept it.
Yes, I also love older Marlin 30-30's.
I prefer a lever action rifle for home protection because I keep a round in the chamber with the hammer down.
Easy to cock at the last moment I need it.

Congratulations. I always get the guy who has 23 rounds of miscellaneous 45 ACP and three corrosive 7.62 x 54R rounds from his dad's collection in a plastic baggy and will not move off $65.

Last winter I was given 120 rounds of loose .40 S&W. About 1 in 10 suffered case rupture.
They came from the collection of an elderly local gentleman who had passed away. Made me a little “gun shy” of second hand ammo. Weekend find
