Default Range report: multiple non-S&Ws

Took a variety of guns that were new to us or that I wanted to have more practice with.

New Sig P250 Compact in .380 ACP. Bought this to be my wife's house gun. Very easy to rack, low recoil and 15 rounds. Function was 100% with Fiocchi 95gr FMJ. We both need to learn the trigger. Offhand I was shooting a tight group 2" right of the POA at 6-7 yards. Off the bag the sights are dead on, so it's me.

Star Megastar in 45 ACP. 3 lbs of shiny 12 round double stack. Only fired about 20 rounds just to check function on this collector's gun. Fewer than 5500 were made. Shooting 230 gr Blazer brass the gun appears to run at half speed compared with most semi-autos. Recoil is s steady push. Once you start all that mass moving it WILL lift the muzzle some, albeit slowly. My wife said her only problem with the gun is the sheer hugeness of the grips and its weight.

Next up was a SAR K2 45, another all steel double stack in 45 ACP. I fitted a stronger recoil spring because I felt the action slammed too much with Golden Saber 185 gr using the stock spring. I was concerned the Blazer brass might not cycle, but it ran no problem. The GS still produces more recoil, but I don't feel the abusive slamming sensation any more. Accuracy was first rate.

Moved on to my LCP because I hadn't shot it since fitting a Hogue grip. It's hysterical shooting the LCP after the Megastar. The slide on the LCP whips back and forth at warp speed, while the Megastar slide moves like a nodding donkey pump. I have a tendency to shoot low but dead on left/right with the LCP, so more practice is needed.

Last up was a Kahr CW9 that is probably going to displace an LC9s for AIWB carry. I changed the mag followers as advised by the Web and needed to check function and learn the trigger some more. Gun functioned 100% with 124 gr FMJ and Federal Guard Dog. I'm staring to "get" the trigger with fewer flyers. It handles recoil way better than the LC9s even though I put a Hogue on the Ruger.

Best news is that all five guns functioned 100% with multiple brands of factory ammo. Can't ask for more than that.

You've got a few guns there I'd like to take for a spin myself.

It's funny, but after shooting revolvers exclusively for the last year or so, I recently had a range trip with a Tristar C100, and then a few weeks later I qualified with a Beretta M9 again. In both cases, I found myself very conscious of the slide moving. I wasn't waiting for it, but I certainly felt like there was a process happening after I pulled the trigger rather than the simple 'bang' of a revolver. It was weird.
