Anyone know which brands (of .25) are dependable?

Most believe that the most effective .25 ACP round for defensive use is the standard 50 grain FMJ load as it penetrates more deeply. So-called .25 expanding bullets don't. I have tested about every make and type of .25 ammunition on the market and have found that the CCI Blazer functions flawlessly in my Galesi. Other guns may have different ammunition preferences.
I don't pay much attention tho those who enjoy badmouthing the .25 Auto as a PDW. It is small enough to carry in a front pants pocket (which I do) without much weight and no clothing print-through. If I ever do need to use it, it will be at very close range and those six shots will be enough. I have never planned to get into any long-distance gunfights.

I've had a chrome P-25 for about 40 years. It was the first gun I ever bought for myself. I was a college kid with very little money and nothing for HD. Not much later my dad gave me a shotgun so I felt a little better.
My Raven was only a good gun for about 6 months. It was a jam-o-matic after that. I couldn't get the darn thing apart to clean it.
BUT it was insanely accurate. That's right. Your eyes saw it correctly. I was shooting it behind my dad's house at a leaf in a pond about 75 yards away as fast as I could shoot it. Dad came out and laughed at me and said I'd never hit anything like that. I drew a bead on that leaf and sank it the next shot. Dad's jaw hit the floor. That little gun was just crazy accurate. It shocked the heck out of me from the first time I shot it.
I did finally figure out how to clean it. I wish I hadn't though. When I put it back together it was like every other Raven I ever shot. It wouldn't hit anything. And it still wouldn't feed a whole mag without fixing 3 jams at least.

At one time I owned a Beretta Jetfire. It was actually a great little gun and am kind of sad that I sold it off. I think I broke even on it though. 25ACP ammo is expensive though....

Nothing at all wrong with a cheap gun that works. Not everyone who needs protection can afford or care to buy a N-frame Smith or Colt 1911.

I still have my .25 Beretta and it does come in handy when you need something handy but you have to go incognito...

I have owned two Jennings pistols. The first one I had was a .22 I bought on sale at some discount store back in the early 1980s. I don't remember the price, but I think about $50. I found it to be highly unreliable with any type or brand of .22 ammunition. It jammed more than it fired. I sold it shortly thereafter for about what I paid for it. The second Jennings was a .380 which I bought back in the early 2000s. I bought it from a neighbor who had never fired it. It came with two new full boxes of Winchester .380 ammunition. I gave him $75. As I stated earlier, it worked fine for firing the first box. After that, strange things started happening. After some looking, I found the problem. The firing pin hole had been peened down preventing the firing pin from protruding. There was a depression the diameter of the primer around the firing pin hole in breech face of the alloy slide. I drilled out the hole, but that turned out to be only a temporary solution, and I soon gave up on a fix. The slide alloy is just too soft to handle the .380 cartridge. I still have it somewhere as I couldn't bring myself to throw it away. It would have been a good personal protection gun if it had never been fired for practice. 50 rounds is a fairly short lifespan for any handgun. I think the Jennings was later sold under the Bryco and Jiminez brand names, no idea if they are still made.
I once had a neighbor who offered to give me his .25 Raven. I declined but wish I hadn't. I am sort of fond of .25 pistols. My normal carry gun is a Galesi .25 which is very reliable with CCI Blazer ammunition. I don't even know it's in my pants pocket.

I also have a Galesi .25 acp pistol. I rarely carry it. It only works with Fiocchi ITALIAN-MADE ammo (red box). If I use American ammo, the gun chokes every 4th round. Italian ammo is hotter and better-suited for the Galesi.

I once chronographed a variety of .25 brands fired from the Galesi. As I remember, the CCI Blazer had the highest MV of those I tested with 50 grain bullets. My notes say an average MV of about 770 ft/sec. But Fiocchi was not a brand I tested.

When you don't have space to carry a gun, there's still room for a .25. Can be put in any pocket, including a shirt pocket. No excuse to go without.
