Default Springfield Armory "Saint" pistol feedback

I'm about to order (depending feedback) a Springfield Armory "Saint" Pistol in .556 and was looking for some feedback from any members that might have one. In advance, thanks.

I've had one for about 8 months now. Solid rifle and fun to shoot.

I like the concept in general but am thinking 9mm. Doesn't have the range but up close penetrates better . If I loved my Glock 19 more I would already have one that uses hi cap Glock mags. Palmeto makes them and they are priced right. Saint has nicer furniture but AR parts swap are easy. I've never had a Springfield Armory anything that I didn't like. Can't imagine their ARs aren't quality firearms.

PS I have a Glock so when I'm teaching folks to shoot I can show them that option and show / tell them why I like other pistols better. I admit i wouldnt be helpless if i got into a mess and all i had was a Glock. I just dont like them. Then i pull a S&W revolver out of my range bag and show them what I really like. Heaven forbid if I could only have one handgun and ammo availability wasn't a factor it would be either a M28 or a 44 Mag Mountain Gun (or maybe a 1911)

Agreed, I really would prefer it in 9mm, but it's only available in 223, 556 and 300 BO. Thanks for your input, it's very appreciated.

Thanks pazzo, can the arm brace be collapsed or be replaced with one that does, if not?

If the arm brace is fixed on the AR pistol (like this one is), can one replace it with a collapsible brace like so many have w/o getting into trouble with the BATF? Anybody have any info on this?

This Diamondback Pistol came new in the box with a Maxim collapsible brace. One of the reasons that I bought it and it is 300BO. Very quite..

I found out that a collapsible arm brace can replace the fixed arm brace, anybody have any suggestions on a good one without spending a fortune?

First, I have not shot the Saint, but have owned other AR pistols.

7.5” ARs in .223 are dumb. I owned one about eight years ago, so am speaking from my experience. Too much loss of velocity, too much flame and too much noise. Basically you have an unpleasant noisemaker that is trying to make a 20” barrel-intended cartridge work in less than 40% of tube. Dumb.

I do have a great 10.5” LMT AR pistol, still loud/blasty but much more controllable. Also is dramatically more likely to maximize the potential of the .223 cartridge. It also gives you enough handguard to adequately grasp. I found the 7.5” handguard was very short and I felt somewhat uncomfortable about the safety implications.

The 300BLK cartridge seems to be a totally different situation in shorter barrels, which it was designed to master. If it was me, 300BLk makes much more sense for home defense and a car gun. The issue is the significant price differential for blasting range ammo between the two, with .223 being half the price. YMMV.

I have a 9mm AR pistol from QC10 using Glock mags. That is the most fun to take to the range and most economical.

Thanks for the feedback, I don't need velocity up close as this will solely be used for home defense, I don't need another range gun for sure. 556/223 in 7.5 is still plenty accurate enough for the house though and all the flame comes out the front as this one has a "forward" flash director too, will probably suppress it later also.

Such a short barrel robs a lot of velocity from the cartridge.

More importantly, this velocity loss changes what the projectile does inside the target.

Ergo, the fragmentation and increased wounding potential of the rounds is severely limited even at close range. I wouldn't want less than an 11-12" barrel on ANY 5.56mm weapon. The SAINT pistol just has way too short of a barrel. The term "ice pick" comes to mind when talking about 5.56 wound profiles at such stunted velocities.

But as just a pure fun gun?

Go for it! But defense? No way hozay.

Thank's Jay, what is your thoughts on the 300BO in the same configuration? I'm not concerned about the cost of ammo as this will only be a home defense gun.
