Default Sig P365 long awaited review.

After ordering the gun on 1/31 and finally picking it up on 7/2 I have put 600 rounds through it. 400 Blazer brass 124gr and 200 Aguilla 115gr. The only issues I had were three FTE all after 450 rounds when the gun was hot and dirty and only on the very last round of the mag.

My 2.0 did the same thing when I first broke it in, so I am good with it. It performed perfectly with Gold Dots even when dirty.

The feel in hand for this gun is amazing and it PERFECTLY sized. Sig really did their research. After a good cleaning and striker inspection, I decided that the gun was officially my EDC and I tossed my Bodyguard into the safe.

As great of a gun, the shield is, the Sig has it beat conceptually, at the very least.

The pocket holster is from Jackson Leather Work. He does all of my leather.

I'm still waiting to see if they really are going to offer it with a safety.

Close examination shows outlines on the lower that will likely get punched out for a safety lever.

While I was never a huge Semi Auto Carry Fan (because of reliability) this Sig P365 has also caught my eye. 10+1 rounds of 9mm is hard to not like-especially with today's loadings and offerings.

I've yet to get to the point that I'm ready to give up my puny little 5 shot Chief's Special M60-7) and Buffalo Bore (#20A) 158gr. +P's, but I won't deny that the thought has crossed my mind.

My wife and I both traded our 12 year old M&P 9 Compacts for two new P-365's about 2 months ago. We both have over 500 rounds apiece in our new guns, and neither one has had one failure of any kind. With the 12 round mag it has the same carrying capacity as the M&P, with much less weight. It is truly a pocket carrying gun, where the M&P was not. We both carry them daily now and have no regrets about.

My other carry guns, presently in the safe, are a S&W 642, a Springfield 1911 45 Compact, and a Ruger LC-9s. Here is a listing of their weights and ammo capacities. All have Crimson Trace green lasers with the exception of the P-365. All are loaded with full mags and one in the chamber.

S&W 642, 5 rounds, 16.7 ounces

Springfield 1911 45 compact, 7 rounds, 32.6 ounces

Ruger LC9 with extended mag, 10 rounds, 22 ounces

Sig P-365 with 12 round mag, 13 rounds, 23 ounces

Just bought my second P365 yesterday. Mfg. date is 6-3-2018. The owner's manual refers to the availability of a model with a safety. Also, they fit my holsters for a Kahr K9 and a Ruger LC9s pro which are now safe queens. I haven't fired the new one yet, but the old one has 500 rounds thru it without any events other than the expected "bang".

Mine is from mid march and it is flat out the best small carry semi auto I have ever owned. It has relegated a number or other small firearms to the back of the safe. I honestly can't imaging a better balance of capacity, size, and ergonomics.

Do you think it's a softer shooter or snappier than your Shield?

Default QUESTION PLEASE.

How is the takedown/fieldstrip? Be still my heart if it could be as easy as the DA/SA 239,226,220's.

Build date on my Sig P365 was April 8th and I received it not too long after that. Sig had got the X Ray 3 sights installed on most of the 365's by then. Took it to the range pretty quick and shot 250 rounds thru the pistol of 115 gr, 124 gr, 147 gr, of several different manufacturers and didn't have a single problem. I had bought the 12 round magazine also and was using all 3 magazines. I don't believe I have ever taken a pistol to the range I was anymore satisfied with right out of the box. It is my carry gun now.

My P365 Experience -

Bought on 7/19. Build date 5/15/18
Cleaned on 7/19

Range trip 1 - 7/20
100 rounds Remington 115gr FMJ
100 rounds Remington 115gr FMJ
All functioned flawlessly

Did not clean.

Range trip 2 - 7/23
100 rounds Rem 115gr FMJ
100 rounds Remington 115gr JHP

FTE at round 11 - FMJ (12 round magazine)
FTE at round 20 - FMJ (12 round magazine)
After that all rounds/gun functioned flawlessly

Cleaned and lubed.

Range trip 3 - 7/30
200 rounds Winchester 124gr Nato FMJ
FTE probably 4th mag (12 rounder)

Cleaned and lubed.

Range trip #4 - 8/2 - rounds 601 - 800.
Decided to run some better ammo looking for 200 straight rounds of flawless function.
1st 60 straight rounds Speer Lawman 147gr TMJ - Flawless.
Next 100 rounds Browning 147gr BPT - Failure to Eject (not classic stovepipe - but case ejected from barrel) at about round 65? of the BPT.
Final 40 rounds of the Speer Lawman - Flawless.

I think I'm OCD in only this aspect of my life - that's 4 failures in 800 rounds - probably should not worry about it - however, I'm just so used to my Glock 43 eating everything (cheap) flawlessly every time.

Next range trip - 200 more rounds of quality ammo - still seeking the flawlessness of those first 200 rounds. I love shooting this thing and want so bad to make it my EDC...I'm just hesitant at this point.

Any thoughts, perspectives???

Let us know how it works out when Sig legal team asks your expertise of what everyone knows and how messed up and unreliable their pistols are...

DADoser, thanks for the detailed review. I've looked at the 365 and nearly jumped twice. But like you, I keep thinking about how good my G43 is and how well I'm able to shoot it. Many 1000's of rounds and can't recall any malfunctions. Mostly Winchester Nato and 124 +p Gold Dots.

Thanks again.

I purchased one this week. Total impulse buy. I have many small autos, but always seem to end up with some flavor of J Frame or Charter Undercover in my pocket.

Took it to the range and ran a 100rd box of Federal 115 gr Brass through it to break it in. Next I ran appx 75 rounds of Remington Green/White Box 115 JHP and 25 WWB 147gr JHP. Everything functioned perfectly,

A lot of gun in a small package. Shoots much bigger than it actually is. Sights are FANTASTIC. A lot to like and I am looking forward to getting to know it better in the coming months.

The only downside is it still seems a bit of a pain to reassemble, I am sure I will get better at it over time and it may loosen up a bit.

Shot mine again today.
1000 round update -

Put rounds 801 - 1000 through it today. Sig customer service email is not on their site - only a phone number. I wanted to write/document my experience and send them vs. debate over the phone my few issues. Found a email contact at Sig through a Sig forum. Below is the email I just sent documenting my experience -

"Mr Ford,
Wanted to contact by email instead of phone to make sure I got you all the info. I love the way my 365 shoots. Ergonomics are good. Its comfortable to shoot and accurate (for me) at self- defense distances. Capacity is fantastic. However, here is my experience with the first 1000 rounds -
Bought on 7/19. Build date 5/15/18 Serial #66A0XXXXX
Cleaned on 7/19. Registered warranty 7/19.

Range trip 1 - 7/20 (cheap ammo)
100 rounds Remington 115gr FMJ
100 rounds Remington 115gr FMJ
All functioned flawlessly

Did not clean.

At this point I'm ecstatic over the 365. So much so that I ordered an IWB holster and 3 additional 12 round magazines. At this point I just wanted to run another 300 rounds trough it before replacing my Glock 43 with it for EDC.

Range trip 2 - 7/23
100 rounds Rem 115gr FMJ
100 rounds Remington 115gr JHP

FTExtract at round 11 - FMJ (12 round magazine)
FTExtract at round 20 - FMJ (12 round magazine)
After that all rounds/gun functioned flawlessly

Cleaned and lubed.

Range trip 3 - 7/30
200 rounds Remington 124gr Nato FMJ
FTExtract probably 4th mag (12 rounder)

Cleaned P365 Weds. 8/1 evening

Did not clean.

Range trip #5 - 8/11 - rounds 801 - 1000
first 100 rounds Speer Lawman 147gr - Failure to extract first magazine round 8. Failure to extract round 99.
next 100 rounds Browning 147 grain BPT - one light primer strike?/failure to fire probably around round 30. All other rounds flawless.

I have never had a failure of the slide to lock back on an empty magazine..

That's 7 failures in 1000 rounds. I'm not sure if I sent it in, you all would experience a failure with it at all. However at this point, I am also not confident enough to use this particular pistol as my EDC. (As much as I really want and had prepared to do.)

Please advise and/or pass this along to an appropriate rep if you are the wrong contact.

Thanks so much in advance for any perspective/options you can provide.

Take care, "

We'll see what the response is. Bottom line at this point - I have not given up on eventually making a Sig P365 my EDC - but not this particular 365. Right now, I'll stick with my Glock 43. Folks on Sig forum think that anything after a June build date seems to be ok.....but for me - I'd consider getting a second one and selling this one - But I'm thinking I would want to wait for a 2019 build date at this point.

I'm not putting anymore rounds through mine at this point. If Sig responds and has me ship it back and they do updates, then I'll go from there. If not, this one will sit for 6 more months and then I'll trade it toward a 2019 build date.

Just my experience with one particular pistol. I know a lot of folks have had great experience with theirs with 1000+ rounds.

I am not understanding just what happened, did the case not "stovepipe" but remained in the mechanism, after leaving the barrel?
Thanks for the interesting, informative range report!
