Dandy Case Barlow!
Gang I just bought a 1992 Case Barlow knife off ebay. It has Stag scales and stainless blades. Absolutely gorgeous, just one year off when I was born. Been wanting a classic Barlow for many years but the many available now are mainly Chinese and don't appear to be very great. This is a U.S.A knife and it is very handsome:
And because this is the Smith & Wesson forum:
Guys thanks for looking, sure am glad to finally have my very own old time stag handle Barlow knife!!

That's my kind of stag. I like lots of bark with smooth antler polished flush to the bolster.
Collecting excellent condition knives off eBay can get expensive but it's still a lot less expensive than collecting guns. Also knives are easier to store.

Didn't Tom Sawyer or Huckleeberry Finn carry a Barlow knife in Twain's books?

Thanks, gang!! LOVE this Case!! Dad loves Case knives too. He got me a Sodbuster Jr. but it got stolen.
I've since repaid him with a Mora Companion. What a joy to buy each other knives. My all-time favorite is my Spiderco Delica 4 in brown that he bought me. It's ridden in my pocket EVERY SINGLE DAY for the past three years or better. LOVE that knife and I feel naked without it!

Given the popularity of the Barlow pattern, it is curious to me that Case does not currently offer one. GEC Barlow runs typically sell out so quickly that you have to be fast and lucky to get one.
Although I am not a particular fan of the pattern, I did pick up the 2017 Bladeforums knife, a sheepsfoot Tidioute barlow in natural canvas micarta. Rough Rider offers a two-blade Barlow in a number of finishes, the most popular of which also sell quickly enough that Case would not have any trouble selling as many as they could make.

Gorgeous Case knife, Jay! I don't want to hijack your thread, but you mentioned that many Barlows are now "...Chinese and don't appear to be very great." I had pretty much the same opinion until I bought a War Eagle Blades from A. G. Russell. The version I got was a two blade Copperhead with jigged bone scales. I was so impressed that I bought a single blade Barlow for my brother-in-law for Christmas. They are really good quality, have strong springs with excellent fit and finish. Plus, they are inexpensive. They are made to A. G.'s specifications and come with either Delrin, jigged bone or stag scales, priced accordingly.

Barlows appear to have become very popular in high end brands like Northwoods but nearly obsolete in average brands like Case and Buck. Considering Barlows were designed to be a less expensive alternative to patterns with bolsters on both ends that is a bit of a contradiction. Daddy or Grand Daddy Barlows' store display space was given over to lock backs as Buck's 110 and copies superseded them. My guess is that customers seeking a lower price than Case Trappers and Stockmans by passed barlows and dropped down to Chinese knives. Of course when a Case Barlow was upgraded with stag it was no longer inexpensive.
I've taken a liking to Daddy Barlows. Case's pattern number for theirs is 43. Neither quick opening nor blade locks benefit me much. The simple old style has every thing I need.
