Default Dan Wesson 15-2 VH6 pawn shop rescue

Found this gem at my favorite pawn shop this past Wednesday. Tony doesn't get very many nice ones in, in the way of revolvers, but every once in awhile he'll get a good one. This Dan Wesson 15-2 VH6 was in the case and it whispered to me that it needed a home. Talked him down to $450 OTD. I'll bet this one shoots very well.

Now I really am envious !. Been searching for one of these for a long while; nothing as nice as yours for less than a grand.

Nice score. The DW model 15-2 single action trigger pull is the best I’ve ever found. $450 is a good price for that one. You will need to go to EWK arms to get the barrel tool.

In Single Action I expect you will find it's fantastically accurate. In double Action you are in for a bit of a shock, because the DW revolver was designed around a "short lock time" and one consequence of this design choice is the DA trigger pull is just a bit heavy, for a Soviet Weight Lifter.

How Heavy? Well when I first got my 15-2 from the Gun Library at Cabelas it would NOT fire one single American Eagle 357 Magnum and had a mis-fire rate of 4 out of 6 with American Eagle 130 grain 38 special in Double Action. Note, per my Lyman Digital trigger gage the DA pull at this time measured at 11 lbs, 4 ounces.

So, I got on the Numrich web site and ordered up a few brand new Mainsprings. This solved the Misfire issue but the DA trigger pull was well above what my Lyman gage can measure at what I would estimate in the 15-16 lbs range. Since I have some spares I did a bit of experimenting cutting the Mainspring by 1//2 coil at a time and found that what feels like about 13.5 lbs is reliable with both Federal and Speer 357 Magnums.

Note, currently the Single Action trigger breaks at 3 lbs. 3 ounces and it's every bit as clean breaking as a S&W revolver so the single action trigger is excellent. On the other hand the DA trigger is heavy but one benefit is if you pick up a well tuned S&W with an 8 LBS. trigger it will feel light as a feather. I will also warn you to take a break after doing any DA trigger practice with the DW, because if you don't as soon as you touch a single action trigger you may find yourself firing the revolver without intending to. Been There Done That, so consider this a warning, do not even think about touching that trigger in Single Action until you have the revolver fully aimed at your intended target. While a revolver firing when you didn't intend to is a bit of a scare it's a lot less scary when the only result is a "flyer" on your target.

A DW 15-2VH in that condition for $450 is a really good deal these days.

Also with the DW .357s you can still get just about any barrel and shroud combo you want at a reasonable price (unlike my .32).

And what gun did you hold on the dealer during price negotiations?

You nearly stole it at 450$

If I venture to get another barrel for it, I will likely get the 2-1/2". Need to get the barrel changing tool and gap gauge as well.

I stumbled on to a DW Model 15 in a gun store last Oct. It was a complete 4 barrel set. I did some research and it looked like I had an older barrel wrench. I went to the DW/CZ website to order a newer barrel wrench. The website said they were out of stock, but if I gave them my email address they would let me know when they were back in stock. That was Oct. I never heard from them. So a couple of weeks ago I called them. They said they did not have any, but they gave me the phone number of the factory in NY. I called and they had it in stock. It came with the feeler gauge and a couple of allen wrenches. So if it is still not on the DW/CZ website, you might call and ask for the DW factory phone number. I think the DW/CZ website and phone number connects to the CZ importer in Kansas.

You were a fortunate person to find that gun at such a bargain.
