leupold 2x7
got a leupold 2x7 vx ??? for a couple years . mostly lived in its original box. PUt it on a cz 452 and set it in the safe for a couple more years. Got it out today and tried to turn the power setting ring up from 2 to 7. It is nearly impossible to move it. I know my grandson will have difficulty with it. Is a little light weight oil judicously applied ok or am I asking for trouble?

It's actually a fairly common complaint with these scopes; by that, I mean common by Leupold standards, which are pretty high. Some people find that by turning them (no oil!) they loosen up on their own.
Others take advantage of the stellar lifetime service of Leupold, and send them back for correction.

Agree with Bullet Bob's assessment above. I've had several of the older ones that have not been used for years. Don't know if it is the lack of use or not but my experience is that they loosen up a bit after being turned 2 to 7 (or whatever the high and low may be) and back a few times. Might still be a bit "sticky" but usable. If that doesn't do it, I think I'd send it back to Leupold before I applied oil. Good luck.

I've owned several Leupolds that initially were difficult to turn and have found that simply turning them back & forth a bit that they loosen up and function easily......personally I like them to be just a bit tight.

Probably a VXII as that's a fairly common 2-7x33 Leupold scope.
I have noted Leupold's power rings being tougher to rotate than other brands. I figured maybe Leupold sealed them for the long haul.
