Default Lever rifles Marlin or Rossi

Tomorrow I will buy a Marlin vs Rossi. I chose to buy the Marlin because I can mount a scope on top the rifle, but the Rossi i'd have to mount the scope on the side of the rifle. I'm buying a 45-70 with a 24" barrel.it cost more then the Rossi .44 which I really wanted.Oh well i'll post a picture of it tomorrow, till then.

Good choice. Any Marlin 1895 is going to be more capable than a Rossi M92.

These days, most of the debates are Marlin vs. Henry. I doubt Rossi keeps making their 92 copy much longer. Their website only shows .45 Colt models when they were making .357M, .44M, .44-40, and .454 Casull too only a couple years ago.

I like buying American and I have several Marlins, a 1894 44mg
and 1895 too. Mine are 45-50yrs old JMs. If I had to replace them today I wouldn't buy a new Marlin. I wouldn't buy a Rossi
either. I would be looking for pre 80 JM Marlin. They were still
JMs then but this was the point in Marlin when finish started to
slide. Not function or accuracy. Enough has been said about the
Remlins so I'm not going there. One thing for sure they haven't
changed my mind. Some reports they are doing better. Still I
would pay the price of a new gun for a old one in top shape.
There are plenty of them on the market to pick from.

We know why you chose the Marlin. When you drop the hammer on that first 45-70 you'll know too!

I had an 1894 in .357 mag and a Rossi 92 also 357.
I still have the Rossi. The 92 action is just better suited for my purposed. If Marlin made a 92 in .357 I would buy it.

The question is do you want a 45-70 or a 44 Mag? Personally no use for a 45-70. It is a comparatively short range thumper hunting rifle. I prefer a 30-06 bolt gun. Im not hunting dark timber so no need for a thumper. No bears or elk here in Texas. The 44 Rossi is a handy short range carbine. It's a plinker that you can hunt medium game at short range. Can also be used for personal defense. Good companion to a 44 handgun.

FYI, the Rossi is drilled and tapped for a scope mount, underneath the rear sight. The position, forward of the receiver, requires the selection of long eye relief scout scopes or red dots.

The Rossi made scope mount has not generally been seen at retail for years, but an enthusiast arranged for the manufacture of custom Rossi mounts for their round barrel versions.

The Marlin 1894 will remain my favorite. The Marlin made ones anyway. Built great and solid

The older "JM" Marlins are GREAT! I hope that is what you got. While the new versions ("Remlins") have improved somewhat, they still fall short of the old JM's IMHO. If you did get a new one I hope they have gotten their act together and you get a great one! Ket us know either way and good luck with it!

I've got an older 1895 LTD. Edition JM .45-70 that is a tack driver!

Okay members I told y'all yesterday that it was going to be a Marlin 45-70 24".I changed my mind I went with 26".....1895CB-45-70 Cal Lever Action,9-shot tubular magazine 26" Octagon barrel, with a American Walnut Stock. I'm not a hunter and will only be shooting it at the range,so Idecided to go with a CROSSFIRE II Riflescope. CF2- 31003 2-7 x 32 DEAD-HOLD BCD (MOA)
