Default Ruger 10-22 Integral Suppressor from Ruger

I have seen you tube videos & a factory video but had not "heard one" Till this weekend. I found it loud ( not hearing safe ) with supersonic, and tolerable with sub- sonic. I was wondering if anyone else had one and if they had the same results. Suggested use of ammo is standard velocity ( 1050 FPS ) giving 113.2 db average. Any words of wisdom appreciated. Be Safe,

I've never actually fired one of the Ruger suppressed barrels, but have years of experience with suppressed weapons. Almost all of my .22's are Rugers with threaded barrels for suppressor mounting. Most .22's, when used with subsonic ammunition are very quiet. Most will create a first round "pop", which is slightly louder than subsequent rounds, due to oxygen in the can igniting. Non subsonic rounds (supersonic), create a sonic crack, which is mostly heard downrange due to the bullet breaking the sound barrier and the sound echoing off of objects nearby as it passes. Another source of perceived noise comes from the action when the bolt extracts & feeds the next round.
Most suppressed weapons are not "Hollywood" quiet, but most suppressed .22's will often be as quiet or quieter than a pellet gun. I have an integrally suppressed Ruger MkIII pistol that is crazy quiet. When fired, most people will ask, "what the heck is that?"

I had a chance to fire several 22s with cans. It seems to me that semi auto 22 are a bit louder that bolts. I know some of it is the mechanism working, but isn't some of it gas escaping out the chamber as the bolt blows open?

I am going to apply for a permit and make a can. I had thought there was a real possibility they would be dropped from the list with the hearing conservation deal, but as we all know the timing of evil events pretty much wrecked that.

My 10/22 is pretty quiet too despite the short barrel

The same silencer on my Service Model Ace. No hearing protection needed. From 10 or 20 yards people will most likely not identify a gunshot.

The 9 mm is substantially louder, again no hearing protection needed, but it sounds like a (muted) gun shot.

My 77/22 has an integral suppresser. It is so quiet you can hear the firing pin hit the primer. It is noisier with high velocity ammo but sounds like a cap gun. You can hear the crack as it passes an object.

I have shot the new Ruger 10/22 with the integral suppressed barrel. I thought it was okay, but it did not demonstrate any significant improvement over my 10/22 Takedown LITE with threaded suppressor. I think the advantage lies with the threaded suppressor because I can remove it and use it on my other threaded barreled .22 LR rifles and pistols. You can't do that with the integral suppressed barrel.

Ken: I am a FFL/SOT and have a fair amount of experience with suppressors also. That is why I was asking about the factory Ruger, since the integral Mark III's are "hollywood" quiet, as are my S&W 15-22 from Innovative Arms, using supersonic 1200-1300 fps, you only hear the action. I have packed the 15-22 with foam where it would go in the stock, and it has quieted it even more. My 10-22 with a Liberty Regulator ( 22 can ) is ear safe with supersonic and runs well and quiet with subsonic or std vel 1000 fps +/-. We compared my customers Ruger integral to a few differnt cans and hosts and it was loud, with supersonic crack. The subsonics were probably ear safe, but loud for an integrally suppressed weapon. Thank You. Be Safe,

Evil affected everyone, the families in Vegas, and law abiding people throughout the US. Unfortunately uninformed politicians refuse to look at facts. The bolt actions are quieter than the semi-auto secondary to the action noise as you had stated, but other integral 22 rifles and pistols from Innovative as are very quiet even with supersonic ammo. Home - Innovative Arms Silencers recommends that you use supersonic since subsonic will not work the action, which allows a great savings in ammo. The reason I posted because I have never heard an integral which was this loud, and suggested to the customer to check with Ruger, since it sounded unsuppressed with any ammo. Thank You. Be Safe,

My 10-22 rifles/pistols are very quiet with Liberty Regulators, some moderate action noise, but still quiet. The reason I posted was that the Ruger integral sounded unsuppressed with all ammo, and certainly extremely loud for a integrally suppressed rifle. Thank You, Be Safe,

I agree the 77/22 I have heard is like a cap gun, even with High velocity ammo, and a mouse passing gas with subsonics. That is why after hearing the Ruger Silent- SR ISB on Sunday I was looking for info. This sounded unsuppressed with all ammo- granted the sub sonic and CCI "quiet" were not as loud but they are not as loud in an unsuppressed host. I am trying to find out if anybody else had a " loud" integral 10-22. Thank You. Be Safe,

That is the info I am looking for. This was a Ruger Integral Takedown and it sounded like it was unsuppressed with all types of ammo. My 10/22's are quiet with a Liberty Regulator and other cans, this sounded loud. This was not FRP, and it remained loud with supersonic, maybe ear safe with the subsonics and CCI " Quiet". But from what your saying there is some suppression with the integral. Did you think the baffle stacking order or how tight the cap was put on affect sound performance? I had ordered this for the customer at his request, not my recommendation, and was trying to see if any one had had similar problems. The integrals I use are from Innovative Arms in 10/22 and S&W 15-22 and used with supersonic are very , very quiet, you only hear the action noise and slight amount of gas from ejection port. You should check out their videos, ( link above) there integrals are very, very quit. Thank You, Be Safe,

The Ruger Integral Takedown that I shot did indeed effectively suppress the report using CCI subsonic and CCI suppressor ammo. About all you could hear was the bolt cycling and the bullet hitting the backstop . . . which is about the same as with my conventional screw on suppressor on my Takedown LITE.

From your description, sounds like the one you fired was not quite getting the job done somehow.

I am going to call customer today and then I or he can call Ruger ( whatever he prefers ) since it is too loud. We put about 200 rounds through it and that had no effect on sound. The baffle stack was checked and stacked correctly, the take down adjustment was as tight as is possible. Unfortunately, standing beside him, or down range in a secure location, it continued to be loud. Thank You for you input. Be Safe,

Not to drift from the original subject "to far": but, please describe the scope on your 10/22.

Have a blessed day,

It's a Barska 3x9 with IR reticle. I put one on my standard 10/22 a couple of years ago and liked it so well I put another one on my 10/22 Takedown LITE when I bought it.

They're under a hundred bucks from Sportsmansguide.com.
