Latest project build an AR-9
Latest project is a build for an AR-9 that takes Glock mags on M4inc. LLC billet upper and lower. Built with Foxtrot Mike 16” barrel and bolt. Using an A2 stock with carbine Guntec 8.2 oz buffer and .308 buffer spring. DPMS trigger components and a Houge free float forearm.
Just waiting for all the ordered parts to come in.
Why 9mm?: cost and availability of both build components and ammo. 9mm is a good all around cartridge for HD and all PCCs shooting matches are scored as minor so there is no advantage in using a 40, 45, or 10. High cap 33 round mags are about $14.99 each.
Why A2 stock, DPMS trigger group, and Houge forearm?: all of these are good quality parts and are on hand from take offs of other AR builds or mods to other guns so cut the build cost. As far as the A2 stock is concerned my height and arm length hasn’t changed much and in my mid 60s don’t see that happening. I don’t ever wear body armor and some adjustable stocks are a little shaky.
Why any AR build or anything with the term Glock?: well seeing how the AR platform and Glocks are blamed by the anti gun forces for every evil in the world up to and including bad weather seemed like a great choice for a 2nd Amendment supporter.

I like 9MM carbines, some cheap shooting and not too loud for the neighbors. I had a Rock River AR carbine that used Uzi mags, but that particular rifle was the most inaccurate rifle I have ever owned. You could not hit a man sized target at 100 yards, at 50 yards it produced like a 12" group. Must have been something wrong with it, wound up trading it for another AR in .223 caliber.
I have several other 9MM carbines now that give good service, a Keltec Sub 2000, Ruger PC Carbine and a Hi-Point. I did see a Colt Lightweight Sporter in 9MM with an A-1 upper at the gun shop the other day, used, price was $1000.
Tempting.....

I've been interested in getting a 9mm PCC at some point, leaning towards an AR-style gun. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.

Yep, that was broken. My old 995 Hi Point will hold 2.5" groups at 50 yards using a red dot and my lousy marksmanship.

My son started to do a AR-9 build awhile back and I talked him out of it because all I had seen and read about these guns. Bolt A didn't work with barrel B or buffer C and or spring D didn't work with anything. if you have a problem you call the bolt people and they say it's the feed ramp on the barrel, you call the barrel people and they say it's the bolt or the buffer weight. He bought a PSA AR-9 that runs like a top he shoots well at a great price of about $550.00 so all's good there.
There was an opportunity I saw to get the same brand upper and lower and same brand bolt and barrel, we'll see how this all works out.
Couple of side notes here: 1st while I'm using a rifle stock I'm using carbine internals, buffer and spring with a spacer to take up the extra space. 2nd buffers cost are way more than I figured, while a standard weight buffer is reasonably cheap getting into something heavier as recommended for 9mm with a blow back system adds a chunk of cost. Need to give a Big Shout Out to Rob Richardson at Sanders Mfg. in Destin for the buffer tube spacer to use carbine length internals in the rifle length stock.
More than I care to think about was not on hand so that jumped the cost up more than what I planned:

OP
Sounds like you are going to end up with a nice package. Like the fact that you can use Glock mag’s. I have a Rock River 9mm carbine, it is one of my house guns.
I had years of experience using and instructing the Colt smg, so a 9mm AR was a natural choice for me. The wife is a retired LEO and is well versed on the M-16 / AR platform, so the AR9 with a metalform mag full of 147 HST’s is kept handy.
Look forward to a range report.

It's up and running, put a Bushnell Banner 1-4 on for now have Millett 1-4 that's going on it when my son puts his new optics on his rifle.
Gun ran fine right off no issues.
Test was fired at 22 yards with some of my sons reloads. 1st three were a little off knob turn put them on the dot (hard to see but there is a white dot on the paper that shines in the sun light).
I'll try to get some better pix later.

I'll do a better range report once I get a little more time with it and the real optics I plan to use. The 1st test looked good as shown in the earlier post.
Couple of better photos:
