Default high hopes for Thompson Center T/CR22 dashed

After reading reviews on the T/CR22 I ordered one and just recently received it. Several disappointments some of which will spur a call to TC Customer Service. I cleaned the gun and mounted a Mueller 8-32x44 SF scope with low rings...couldn't zero at 50 yards...used all the up elevation and was still a couple of inches low. Tried a second scope a UTG 3-12x32 SF BugBuster...same thing used all up elevation and still shot low. The gun behaves as if the rail has a negative MOA profile to the barrel. After shooting some various brands I got 10 shot groups averaging 1" at 50 with Norma TAC-22 with the Mueller scope. Next I took the scope off to adjust the iron sights. The front sight was canted...the factory slapped the barrel on without properly indexing to the extractor...re-indexed it myself torquing the block down evenly to 12 in/lbs. BTW the barrel drops out of the receiver...no interference fit. Next with rear sight adjusted to its lowest setting still couldn't zero at 25 yards...shoots an inch high. Needs a taller front sight. The comb is the right height for the peep sights and a low profile red dot (Bushnell TRS25) but not high enough for scopes even with low rings....they should of made it adjustable. Will have to see what CS has to say and go from there.

I have the R55 22lr version. It's a pre-S&W manufacture. Got a ferrous reciever, don't know the exact material but it attracts a magnet. I handled an R22 and immediatley said no thanks.

Mine came with a 5rnd mag and I found 3 10rnd'rs for cheap on clearance at 2 different stores, like $5 each. Mags are metal too.

I have had a T/CR22 for about a month. shot using the stock sights with no problems. Went to the range this morning and sighted in my cheap Bursa scope. Got it zeroed in at 25 yards with no issues.

I do like the rifle and plan to use in rimfire matches at the local club. I looked at this one as well as the Ruger 10/22 and like the fiber optic front sight. I like that it takes Ruger mags (thought thyey won't hold open after last round like the TC ones do.

I just got mine about one week ago, got one of my extra scopes mounted on it, but have not yet had a chance to get it to the range. I am looking forward to it.

I took advantage of Brownell's sale on them a couple weeks ago, $299 plus a $50 S&W/TC rebate, plus a $60 Brownell's gift card, plus 11% promotion discount. Bringing the net price down to $167. How could I go wrong on that?

The barrel was on straight, the special T/C mag loaded easily. I broke it down to clean it and it did have quite a bit of junk inside the barrel but not horrendous. This gun has a lot of extra value features, like the LSHO and the hole at the rear of the receiver for cleaning. The threaded barrel doesn't matter to me. However, I do like the Magpul stock although I'm not a fan of synthetic stocks. This gun is very light.

Can't wait to see how it shoots against my stock 10/22 carbine.
