Added a new K-Bar today.
I have been looking at this K-Bar in my favorite "if we don't have it, Chesty wouldn't want it." catalog for two years.I finally order it last week.

Great looking K-Bar.
Are you getting the custom wood display?

My wife bought me a similar KaBar (minus the commemorative stuff) several years ago. This KaBar Dozier is quite recent, a nice little edc lockback.

Sgt Grit has a lot of good stuff. However, my last catalog didn't have any Chesty Puller tee shirts. Guess I need to check their on-line catalog.

In 1997 My oldest delay enlisted in the Army before his senior year of HS. At a gun show, we found a nice WWII Ka-bar for $35. When he went to Iraq in 2003 or 4 he took the knife with him. And sold it to someone that needed it, in country. That knife saw action in WWII, Korea, Twice in Vietnam, and twice in Iraq.
I have 4, one in every truck, one on every pack and my favorite, for walks in the woods. It almost balances my 1917 woods gun.

I found and downloaded the technical drawing for a military K BAR. Then I build one the way I wanted it.

SWEEEeeeeeet......I have a couple of the 7" Ka-bars but find the 5" versions and their 5" MkI "Deck knife" more practical/and a bit less Tacticooool in the case of the Mk I........but Steelslaver that is really cool!!!!
What do sheath do you use that is worthy of that blade???
I've had SavageSheaths of Va. make several for my Ka-bars.

Nice Kabar.
I have two Kabars. One that was given me by a Korean War Marine (it was issued to him and is of WW II vintage) and the other I bought in the PX and carried on active duty. Will be buying one for my Grandson, who is a L/Cpl on active duty now.

I have 2 that my father got me in the 50's, when I was too young to have them. A WW2 USN, and the later USN with the composite sheath. Both Mint, and they were given to me 55 years ago. They are my prized possessions. I also have a reconditioned one in my tool bucket

I made a simple sheath like most K BAR use. Just hand double stitched with a welt all the way around and left off the rivets. I end up giving that one to my brother that was also a Marine for a birthday present. Going to make another one for myself. I have a stocker I picked up in a pawn shop.
Here is the drawing I used. Originals were made with 1095 high carbon, I have seen copies made with D2. While D2 retains its edge well it is way more apt to snap. The one I made I used 1095/15N20 damascus in a low layer count twist pattern to get the camo type effect. The handle I made before I bought sheath material by the side and didn't have a lot of scrap, so I bought a bunch of old belts at the second hand store. Used a piece of pipe with a sharpened end to cut out a lot of disk, made a punch to cut slots and stacked them on, Used a pipe clamp with wood glued to jaws to press them real tight on tang. after I installed the pommel I used a belt sander to shape and a 4 1/2 grinder to make groves. I clamped the grinder in a vise and locked it on and turned the knife to get better control and more uniform grooves. I use a belt turned inside out to burnish leather.

Does the USMC still issue Ka-Bars? Or, any knives?
I was in the USAF, but not on a flight crew. No issued knives, so I bought a couple, expecting Vietnam duty. My career field would put me right in the main line of defense, had a base been attacked, as Ton Son Nhut was, in the 1968 Tet offensive.
Then, they sent me to Newfoundland...
When my son (Army) went to Iraq, I gave him a Fallkniven S-1. But he thought it was too nice to use, so actually carried a Ka-Bar!
Now a civilian, he does carry and use Fallkniven A-1 and S-1 knives. But I respect the Ka-Bar as a basic combat-utility knife. Most aren't too well fitted in the guard area. You can hold the knife to a light and see gaps. The old WW II ones I've handled were better fitted and the handles seemed a bit thinner, which I prefer.

When I was in Army our outfit supply had m16 bayonets, those
GI pocket knives and the 5" survival knife. None of the above
were useful. Knives were a common thing sent from home. The
most of us who weren't some kind of special opps, who seem to
be in the minority these days, had assorted Buck, Western, Case
ect.. about the same you would carry deer hunting. I managed
to get 1/2 dozen Kabars off Marines when they were pulling out.
With great trouble I managed to sneak them in my duffle. When
we got to SETAC we had to go through customs again which was
suppose to be a breeze. We were lined up outside terminal when
word came they were doing cavity searches for dope. Everybody
was digging out their contraband and throwing it in a dumpster
that was in the area. So went my Kabars. Got inside and guy
that checked me looked like WC Fields and acted like him too.
Waved me through after couple questions. I would sure liked
to dive that dumpster. 150-200 guys dropped their goodies in
there.
