Colt Officers Model Match 38
Every time I think I'm through with Colt's, another one turns up and I have to try again.
This time it's a 1959 Colt Officers Model Match in 38 Special. I couldn't find but a couple of blemishes on it. A little blue wear at the muzzle, a small spot on the cylinder, probably from resting on a shelf, and a couple of dings on the right side stock. Lockup and timing are as perfect as I've ever seen on a Colt. Just (insert cliche here) "Bank vault tight" on all six chambers.
The pictures really don't do it justice. It was just starting to rain, so it was a grab and go. Those spots are raindrops.
I don't know much about Colt prices, but I figured at $650, it wasn't too far out of line.

I like my Colts every bit as much as my S&W's. Does that make me a philanderer?

Been getting out of Colts for last several years. My 1962 OMM 38 sold for $700 and that was 3 plus years ago, no box, no docs, condition was mechanically perfect, normal high post and muzzle blue loss.
For $650 you did very good in my opinion. Enjoy that piece..they are some fine shooters....the Colt grips just never fit my hand as well as S & W Model 14 with Targets

You might be aware that the Gen 1 fully-checkered stocks are worth about half what you paid for the gun. The checkering dents on the right panel can be cleaned up.

I paid a couple hundred more for mine but don't mind at all. Yours is sweet.

Collectors will have a fit with what I'm about to write. But I'm okay with that!
I paid $500 for this OMM about 6 or 7 years ago. I advertised the original stocks on ebay for $250, and they sold 18 hours later. Then I found these repro cocobolo stocks for $40. So now I have one of the nicest target revolvers I've ever owned and I'm into it for just under 3 bills.
Regardless, I wouldn't hesitate to spend $650 on one as nice as yours.

I had one almost identical also from 1959 IIRC. Was out of time when I bought it. Took it to my gunsmith who talked me out of it for around $650. After he timed it and tuned the action a little slicker, he sold it for $900. Still regret selling it. At $650 I think you did just fine.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I thought it was a good price, but about the only think I know about Colt pricing is run of the mill Official Police 38's, and top end Pythons. This one fell in between. I actually paid a little less than the $650 tagged price, but not enough to brag about.
They also got (or had Friday) a Colt Officers Model Target 22 that keeps bugging me. The S/N indicates that it's from 1946/47 as best I can tell from Proofhouse. It seems to be in maybe not quite as nice condition as the 38, but probably pretty close. I've been told the grips aren't right for it, but I like the way they look. I doubt it's a serious collectors gun anyway.
I had put it on hold, then took it off, but the darn thing keeps calling me. They're asking just under $900.00 for it. I suspect that it might be high on this one.
Anything that looks like wear is probably bad light, except for the very end of the muzzle, and maybe the hinge of the yoke.

Those grips are the Gen 2 type, used from about 1960 until the early 1970s and would not be correct for an OMT 3rd. But nonetheless desirable, just less so than Gen 1 targets. A good pair of those will sell for $200-$250. Originally it would have been equipped with the normal Colt checkered wood service grips. I'd think $900 is a little high for an OMT 3rd issue, but I haven't seen one for sale in awhile and don't know the present market.
