Grandpa’s army rifle
I was unloading groceries from my wife’s car when a neighbor pulled up with her teenage son Ken. He must be fourteen, he doesn’t have his learners permit to drive yet. His mom, who is barely twice his age, explained that Ken wanted to go shoot her dad’s old army rifle but they didn’t know what bullets to buy. I told them to come inside.
Ken got the case from the car and pulled the rifle out. I asked the woman if her dad was from Argentina as this is a sporterized 1909 Argentine Mauser. Nope, Ken said grandpa was from Soperton, GA. That remark sailed over both their heads.
I told them the gun used .311 bullets but I had a partial box of Norma ammo he could have. I went and got it for him. 17 loaded cartridges, 3 empty cases. I told him to save his brass as I had dies and could reload them. I told him where to buy ammo on line for it. Ballistically this is a great cartridge.
Whoever sporterized that gun did a nice job. Probably a R-F stock, D&T’ed, Redfield scope, iron sights removed. I was given one very similar to it a few years ago and passed it on to a neighbor. That’s how I got the dies.

Lucky for them they have you as a neighbor. Not many people have extra 7.65 ARG ammo laying around.

I have a few odds and ends. Like a .32 WSL cartridge, second from left in the first photo.

Maybe you should offer to supervise his first shots.

I have an 1891 Argentine Mauser, made in Berlin, in the same caliber. Outstanding cartridge. I shoot this rifle only with hand loaded ammo using home cast, gas checked lead bullets.

I've told this story before, but my first rifle was an 1891 Argentine Mauser. I bought it for 30 bucks from a friend of my dad's when I was 11 years old and we lived in SE Alaska, back in the early 70's. It had a 22" barrel and a Lyman peep sight. I killed my first 2 deer with it, and twice thought I was going to get to shoot a brown bear. Sadly, didn't get to. A box of Norma ammo (pictured in the OP) was the princely sum of 5 dollars.

That's pretty decent ammo. I bought some 196 gr. SP's for my 8mm, and they shoot great.
