I somewhat regret selling my P240 in 38SPL LWC. I sold it because I was always too worried about barrel bulge to shoot it, but I probably should have just sucked it up and enjoyed it anyway.

Yes. I've regretted selling or trading several in earlier fits of ignorance and stupidity. Thanks for reminding me.

Here is my spin on the OP question.

Yes, there are some I would have liked to hang on to, good shooters, good 'investments', rare pieces, and one that was somewhat historical.

Here is the realty for me: I collect a particular style, type, variant, period, etc., to thoroughly explore this area of collecting. I buy many similar barrel lengths, models, whatever interests me.

Then, after so many years, I sell the excess, keep the best, and buy new (old, typically) guns to enjoy.

By keeping the best Lew Horton, or others from my collection, I do not feel that I am missing anything because I have the best or rarest of that type I could find. I love learning and will then check out another area of the hobby.

It should be said, of all the things to collect, firearms, or antique arms, or modern arms, is an area with endless knowledge and learning.

I once had a large collection of S&W Model 27-2's and 29-2's which I sold off. Why, because I was getting old and didn't need them anymore. I doubled my money and sold them before their value really took off. That's life and I'm not sorry.

A S&W 45acp revolver model of 1988(they only made 5000 like it).I sold it in the early '90s and I stopped crying last month.Now that you remind me,I guess I'm good for another year of wincing and crying!

my first handgun was a colt detective special.I kept it about six months then sold it to a friend.It kind of stayed under my skin.43 years passed,i called my friend and sure enough he still had it but really did not want to sell it.I played my cards over a period of about a month and bingo! Got it back!! Still looks the same grips etc.no change.It will not slip away again

Many I've regretted selling, most of them gone due to fiscal insufficiency.

A lovely pre-B CZ75. A beautiful Belgian Browning A5 Light Twenty, 28" modified, vent rib. A Remington ADL in .243 Winchester that was deadly on ground hogs and quite adequate on deer. And in a classic case of immature judgment, at twenty-three I sold my first Marlin 39A, one with the thick fore stock. I didn't wait long to rectify that blunder.

A JM Marlin 336 in .30-30 was traded toward the 700ADL, fifty years ago. Wish I had kept both.

I could go on, but it makes me too sad.

I have a semi-auto Uzi and it sucks. Uzi's were not meant to be semi-auto's, but I built mine so I will never sell it. Those micro's are bullet hoses. I would kill for a NFA micro like that. Is that a Scionics suppressor on that thing?

I only really regret selling/trading two guns.
1. Like a couple of posters above, I had an original CZ-75 purchased in Germany that our Corps chief of staff authorized me to carry on or off duty in uniform or not.

I carried it loaded with 124 grain Federal 9x19mm truncated cone match ammo. It was stolen in the mid ‘90’s after I retired the first time. After riding around loose in the trunk of the thief’s car, I got it back all scratched to hell and gone. Heartsick, I traded it in on something else and have regretted it ever since.
2. The other was a blued 3 inch barreled Colt Detective Special with the exposed ejector rod, original grips, and a Tyler T-Grip adapter that thought it was a target pistol. (No photo) I sold it in a moment of weakness to help fund a .375 H&H Magnum Whitworth Express Rifle for a safari to Africa that never happened due to governmental political interference. I’m still pissed about that because I went to get the DS back and it sold within an hour of my selling it to the LGS!

I've sold a few I wish I hadn't sold but usually if I really like a gun it will be mine forever. The only exceptions being the ones I give away to my children and their spouses. But I still have guns I bought 40 years ago and some that were given to me longer ago than that. I try to keep a lid on how many guns I have though. I don't want them to suffer from a lack of attention. And some guns do need attention. I guess right now I regret trading off an SKS even though I got a good price for it and I traded it for my daughter's graduation present. But the thing is probably worth double what I got for it now. That's the only real reason I regret letting it go. I still have a better example anyway. That's probably why I let the one go besides just getting a good deal for it on a trade for something I knew my daughter would love. Can't regret that but I could have kept it and paid cash for her present and I would have doubled my money in a few years.

Since I'm a shooter not a collector, I have few regrets over the guns I've sold or traded. One exception does stand out. I sold a Model 19 with a 6" barrel that was absolutely the most accurate revolver I've ever shot. It was also close to the ugliest I've ever owned as far as finish goes. Might have had 20% blue left. Wasn't beat up, just had no finish. And had a set of off brand rubber grips with no name that fit me like a T. Also one of the slickest actions I've ever felt and a fantastic SA Trigger. Wadcutters in one ragged hold at 25 yards all day. Shot magnum loads just as well at steel plates at 100 yards. Problem was back in those days, I was embarrassed to take it out. Guess I wanted to be a hotshot with all of the pretty guns, so I sold it. Now days, I'd be proud to own it back and would show it off like a new speckled puppy, but its long gone. Sold it to a guy and right after he bought it, it was stolen out of his truck and has never shown up. Been over 20 years ago and I still remember it fondly as well as how stupid I was with the ego of a teenager.

May I include a rare gun I don't regret selling? Ruger Mark ll 5.5" blue bull barrel. My first Bullseye gun. God knows how many rounds before I owned it. Accurate as I needed. Sold after I bought a 6-7/8 Gov't stainless bull barrel. I made a deal with the buyer. First right to buy back is mine.

I can feel your pain all the way across the Atlantic, I’ve got a pair of HK M8 / M13 I posted here, they will stay for a long time.

I am also eyeing a FA mini UZI for sale locally.

First year Ruger flattop .357 4 5/8” with black plastic stocks I sold in 1968. Gun was mint but headed off to Air Force basic training and needed some cash so sold it for $50.
Been trying to find another every since but prices have elevated slightly above the $50 I got for it!

For now I am a buyer. When the right time comes, I will be a seller only, but that is a long way off.

Guess I'm not the only one. My regret the S&W Model 19 snubby which cost me $180 back around 78. The not buying regret was the Colt Woodsman Target with the Bullseye and elephant grips I believe they were called! Yeah that one really hurts!!

Pretty much a shooter here but 2 I can remember:
An S&W 624 6” and a High Standard Supermatic Trophy.

But I get over it quick.. as they have paid for my hobby here 100%.

A Browning Citori O/U 12 ga that was my baby. I sold it the year I started my business. Invested every cent I had and sold a bunch of stuff just to get by back then. It was 1990.

I know I could buy another but that gun and I shared a thousand duck blinds and tons of memories. I still got them tho!

Any guns I sold I could easily buy back the same thing, but I had a cheap EAA Witness .40 that was my "go to" defensive handgun for 20 years that I miss. I wish I had it back because it was the older smaller frame that fit my hand perfectly, was scarey accurate with a really nice night DA/SA trigger, and it was 100% reliable.

I had a Citori O/U Skeet 12ga.. felt like a 20ga smooth shooter... It was a friends gandma's gun... Pristine..Grandpa took it to a pawn shop refused their offer (1/2 value) and sold it to me for the same offer he received.

All I've sold are Rugers and locked smiths so no, not particularly.

I had a pristine 27-2 that I paid $500.00 for in 2010. I sold it in 2014 because I was unemployed for $500.00. I cannot look at a 27 without wincing, especially at today's prices. And my Benelli Super Black Eagle. Ugh.

I have only sold 2, regretted both. An H&K USP45 compact in stainless and a Browning Citori . Both great guns.

Yep, I fall into this category. I have sold the following, all on this forum.

1- 3" 625 RB
1- No lock Bloodwork 627
3- 3" 66

Wish I still had at least one of the 3" 66's. I guess just not enough to spend $1,200 for another one.

Still have a bunch that I am starting to think about selling due to future retirement......someday

Colt Python Ser. # 6306, bought new in 1959 as a young GI at Aberdeen Proving Grounds for school and then sold to a German friend when I was there in 1964. He still has it. I shoot it every time I go over. I still miss it.
