Default My first non polymer Walther

I've always loved Walthers ever since my father introduced me to firearms when I was a boy. I can remember us watching James Bond movies together and him talking about wanting a PPK. The first time we ever went to an indoor range we rented a PPK and from then on I had to get one.

I've been keeping my eye out for a Ulm/Do shooter grade pistol for a while now but I never could find one at a price point I felt comfortable with. Until the other day...

Local store put this PPK/S in 22lr out on the floor at a price normally the new ones go for. The blueing immediately caught my eye with the price. After a closer inspection, I found this one to be all original, presumably a 1970 issue, with the appropriate import marks.

So, I haven't shot it yet but definitely plan to. Word around the block is that these like the hotter rounds, maybe someone can confirm this if they have one. And after seeing what an extra mag costs, I'm glad I got two in the deal. It did not have the original box, just 2 mags and 2 sets of grips. Some plastic targets and these wood panels which fit the gun and my paw nicely. Can't have too many 22's right??

Feedback is greatly appreciated

Very nice!
I'm a big fan of the Walther PP series pistols and have several. My PPK/s .22 is one of the current production pistols made for Walther by Umarex. I envy you for finding a true Walther and in such great condition too. Beautiful pistol!
And yes, the do prefer the hot loads.

Just as a point of information: Walther has actually been a subsidiary of Umarex since 1993. They’ve just moved production around within the corporation.

I own a Walther PPK/S .22 manufactured in 2013. Mine likes High Velocity ammo, but the modern PPK/S .22 has some key differences with older models like yours, such as having a heavier alloy slide/frame, which likely contributes to the predisposition towards hotter ammo.

I would try yours out with Standard Velocity ammo first and see how it feeds. No sense in paying for more expensive ammo and subjecting your vintage pistol to any unnecessary wear if it will reliably feed cheaper Standard Velocity ammo.

Congratulations on your acquisition of a true classic at a fantastic price.

I have always loved the look of the PPK. But when I decided to buy a small .22, I went with the similar (but not identical) Bersa. Cost was a factor, of course, but perhaps the larger consideration was materials -- the Bersa has a steel slide, while the .22 PPK's, at least the recent ones, have zinc slides.

That may not mean a hill of beans, but the steel slide, fine accuracy -- and, yes, the price -- persuaded me to go with the Bersa, and I have not been at all disappointed.

Very nice - and great quality photos! Normally, I feel pretty bad when someone posts a picture of something I don't have. But, I managed to pick up a blued TPH last year - in similar immaculate condition. It is US-made so I assume it was made by Ranger in Alabama. Local kitchen-table FFL picked it up an estate sale in PA - so it looks like some older feller up in PA never got a chance to shoot it ...
