Default Kimber front sight dovetail

Does anyone know what dovetail cut Kimber use on their 1911 Stainless Target II 9mm?

I thinner out the front sight on my one a little too much and would like to replace it. I know that the rear sight is cut for a Bo Mar dovetail, but no-one locally (not even our two renowned locally/nationally 1911 gunsmiths) can confirm if the front sight is also cut for a Bo Mar replacement.

And Kimber does not have an e-mail address listed on their website for enquiries.

No, but there is an international phone number: International Calls: +1-406-758-2222

Well I called Kimber’s international phone number today. Unfortunately they use a proprietary dovetail cut on all their 1911 front sights and they do not take foreign orders. Both a US shipping and billing address are required. The shipping address is not a problem, I can use Borderview International to forward items on to me. But the billing adddress is an issue as all of my credit cards are billed to New Zealand.

Fortunately the customer service rep steered me to both Brownell’s and Heinie. Brownells ships internationally. Heinei’s does not. And all of Browell’s products have dot sights or inserts. I prefer a plain black sight.

I will try a specialist welding outfit I have used before. They may be able to build up the sight thickness enough. If not one of the Heinei sights shipped through Borderview will be ordered.

And top marks to Kimber for the friendly customer service.
