a couple of new knives(damascus)
I got these this past weekend at the Dyersburg, TN gun show. they are made by four guys in their 70s that have been making knives together for 40 years. they are 412 layer Damascus steel. the larger one has a 4 3/4" blade and the smaller one is 2 7/8". I also bought a blank and some stabilized spalted maple handle blanks that I will post later when done. lee

$65.00 for the large one and $45.00 for the small one were the marked prices. I got them both for $100.00. I think that was a great price. lee

I LOVE THE STRIKING BLADES, ESPECIALLY THE GUTHOOKS. THAT IS A DESIGN THAT IS SELDOM EXECUTED IN DAMASCUS STEEL......
IMHO, THE SOMEWHAT GAUDY MULTICOLORED HANDLES DO LITTLE TO COMPLEMENT THE KNIVES. SIMPLE STABILIZED SPALTED MAPLE WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT CHOICE.....
LIKEWISE, I AM NOT DRAWN TO THE SHEATHS---ESPECIALLY THE OVERSIZE BELT LOOPS.PERHAPS THE MAKERS ARE ATTEMPTING TO EMULATE PRIMITIVE DESIGNS FROM THE BLACK POWDER ERA....
OBVIOUSLY LeeBarner LIKES THEM JUST HOW THEY ARE---AND THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS.....
