Default Does anybody make this 9mm? UPDATE at post 38.

After selling off some guns to finance truck repairs, I find myself lacking in 9mm pistols. I'm about at the point where I'm ready to start looking at replacements. BTW: no particular hurry. I'm still recovering financially.
I do still have my Hi-Power and 92fs for full size pistols. So I'm thinking I'd like to go with a compact. The problem is that I don't think I can find what I want.

Here's what I have in mind:
caliber- 9mm
Small size able to fit in a coat pocket easily.
DA/SA with a hammer.
A single stack mag would be acceptable.
NO PLASTIC! An alloy frame would be good, but steel works.

Does anybody even make something like this anymore?

Edited to add:
I'd like to keep the price reasonable. Hopefully no more than $400-500. But maybe more if I find just the right one.

CZ Rami fits the bill. Double stack, though. It's roughly Shield size but thicker and heavier. They can be hard to find, though.

The CZ Rami is a great little sub-compact. A CZ PCR is a compact that fits your criteria, and happens to be my CC preference for a while now.

I agree with the CZ recommendations above.

Is it a strict requirement to you that it be a brand new/currently produced model?

It's going to be hard to find a 9mm Luger handgun that fits the bill. You may have to go to 9x18 Mak or 9mm Short.
If you had to compromise in one area, what would it be, frame material, caliber or DA/SA trigger?

for DA/SA, single stack, alloy (used market, most of these are discontinued)
SIG P239
S&W 3913 or CS9
Beretta 92 L Type M
HK P9S
SIG P225/P6
HK P7M8
Detonics Pocket 9
Kimber Solo Carry (not DA/SA)
Bond Arms Bullpup9 (not DA/SA)
Kahr MK9 (not DA/SA)
SIG P938 (not DA/SA)
Remington R51 (not recommended)
Rohrbaugh R9 (not DA/SA)
Springfield XD9E (DA/SA but poly frame)

If you can live with 9mm Mak or .380 and must have a metal frame there's lots of mid/small pistols like
FEG PA-63, Walther PPK, CZ 82/83, Bersa Thunder, HK HK4, Radom P-64, etc

SIG P239, though it is recently discontinued.

If you're into used firearms, I think the Astra A75 or the South African Republic Arm RAP401* clone fits what you're looking for:

-All steel
-9mm
-Hammer
-DA/SA w/a decocker can be carried cocked and locked
-Small but heavy -- A75L is the lightweight version
-8 round single stack

*Better finished clone I have a RAP401

The bad news is that they haven't been made in 20 years, but magazines are easy to find.

If that's not available, I'd go with a SiG P225/P6 or the accept the extra width and get a P228/P229. If not that, a Cz75 compact or PCR...

If you're willing to consider out-of-production, one of my personal favorites fits your requirements to one degree or another. Uncommon and admittedly not beloved by all, I remain a devotee of the not often seen Walther P5 Compact.

That said, many of the above-mentioned models are excellent and well worth considering.

Not necessarily. But it would make finding one easier. Trying to find a specific used gun can sometimes be difficult. Years ago I had a 3914 which I now regret selling. But I know those are getting hard to find and darned expensive.

Quote:

I can live with a SA. I'm an old 1911 guy anyway. But I would have to get past my dislike for 9mm 1911s.

Let me add this. I'm not much of a 9mm guy. In semi-autos, I much prefer a .45acp. If something smaller is required, I have plenty of .38s and .380s I can and have used.
However, I do like to keep a few 9s around simply due to ammo availability and them being so common. Truth is that I'd probably not carry this gun. I just like to have the choice available.
So let me add one more criteria: I don't want to spend a whole lot of money.

Like I said, right now I'm just looking at possibilities. Might be a while before I actually buy.

EEA Witness Steel Compact
Action: double/single action, semi-automatic, Barrel Length: 3.60"
Caliber: 9mm, Capacity: 14+1,Frame Description: stainless steel
Grips: black synthetic,Manufacturer: EAA, Weight: 30.0 oz
Manufacturer Part Number: 999099, UPC: 741566111198

Also there is the Baby TA-90- A gun that myself and 2 friends fired a lot, 1000 rds first time out. In 3 years we put upwards of 10,000 rds through it, and last I knew, 2015 it was still running fine. Meets the criteria that you wanted, numerous ones on auction sites. I had forgotten about it, and just started bidding on one now!! Just realized I have no accurate, double stack, steel 9mm, well within the price range that you listed. When I win one I will post it. Be Safe,

Sig just reintroduced the P225 but at a Sig retail price - can be found on the used market, mostly European police turn-ins (the P6 I think).

A small but wide 6906 would also fit your criteria. SA/DA and no hammer spur but a grooved top to (very carefully) cock manually.

Well not still being made but you can't go wrong if you can find a S&W 3913 or another of the 39xx series...

Edit: Saw your post #9 maybe a small/compact 9mm 1911 style ??????? If you got the $$$$$$s Wilson Combat makes a couple.

Sig 938, if you can accomplish both of the above. Otherwise meets your additional qualifications . . .

I was going to suggest the CZ 2075 Rami as well, but at least 3 other people seem to have beat me to it. Maybe the Universe is trying to tell you something? You gotta listen to those little voices...

Muss beat me to it, the 938 is a great smallish EDC 9mm.

Slightly heavier (OK, alot heavier) is one of my favorites in the single stack 9mm line that I've not seen mentioned.

HK PSP or P7's are great pistols. Slight learning curve on the training end with the squeeze-cock mechanics.
My PSP came in late 90's/early 2000's when German Police were dumping them and many were on our market in the ~$400 range.
Fantastic shooters. Very low bore axis. Often said mine shoots like a rifle.

Anyway, lots of good choices mentioned.

A used Springfield EMP or a Firestar made by Star. If you don’t mind double action only used Kahr P9 would be a good choice.

As you say you are a 1911 guy, have you considered the Star BM? There has been a boatload of discussion here recently. I like mine.

Dang, old tanker - I've been doing my best to ignore the deals out there on these.

Didn't see it on the thread yet (might have missed it) - Bersa Ultra Compact Pro. Comes in 9mm and .40.

I've been considering one. Seems to have good reviews.

For a compact, single stack, DA/SA, metal frame, hammer fired 9mm, I'd suggest the Sig P225 A1, but it's a bit big for most pockets. The older model P6, which were W. German duty carry versions sometimes come on the market at affordable prices. It's a better fit for larger hands than the P239. If you want something smaller for a pocket, you need to venture into the subcompact/micro world.

Default I like that set-up too.....

...but it is getting displaced by guns that seem to have an opposite philosophy. We can hope for a comeback.

Another obsolete gun to consider is the Star Firestar and the Firestar Plus (double stack variant). These guns are steel, single action and hammer fired.

To be brutally honest I cannot think of a better and cheaper way to get a good 9mm than to get one of the MANY polymer guns out there. Go look at the CDNN website. The DA/SA hammer fired EAA pistols are stupid cheap. The new Ruger EC9 is very concealable and affordable, as if you want more capacity the new Security 9 fits the bill. Both have INTERNAL hammers.

If you can give up DA/SA and want a pocketable metal frame 9mm pistol that is in production then

SIG 938
Kahr MK9
Kimber Micro 9
Kimber Solo Carry (recently discontinued)
Rohrbaugh R9 (discontinued and expensive)

Some of the guns listed in this thread are nice but not necessarily pocket friendly.
The CZ 2075 is nice but has a 3 inch barrel and it's 26 oz. Compared to the 3 inch barrel SIG 938 that weighs 16 oz.
For me pocket carry limits are about a pound, roughly the weight of an Airweight J frame .38. Any larger and it doesn't get pocket time.

CZ P-07 compact is a decent option.

If you can bear a 380 acp consider a Beretta mod 84f (very nice pistols)

Kahr K9 is a all steel striker fired pistol of excellent quality and oh lets see... Beretta PX4 storm sub compact, not the compact but the "subcompact" which is smaller yet...

if you really want t be on a budget look into those Spanish made Star BM1 9mm pistols. But you do get what you pay for.....But if it was me? I'd choose either the kahr K9 or Beretta mod 84f

It is DAO instead of DA/SA, but the Bond Arms Bullpup/Boberg XR9 should work

The original Boberg is also available with a longer barrel - 4.2" vs. 3.35"

It's a double stack but the Sig P224 might fit the bill.

Wow! A lot more out there than I thought.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I happen to like Sigs and right now the P239 is very appealing. However, I'm not sure if I want to pay that price. I'd also really like to get one in my hands to see if it really is what I'm looking for. But then, I can say that about any of them.
Anyway, I now have an idea of what to look for. So I'll keep my eyes open and watch for the right gun at the right price.
Thanks everybody!

The P239 is a fine handgun, just do yourself a favor and try the P225 A1 in your hand before you decide. They're very similar is size, and identical in function, but the grip on the P225 is better IMO, and points better. Good luck in your search. BTW: A couple of months ago, I saw a P225 A1 that was NIB at a LGS for $709. That's the best price I could find after looking online.

I saw your comment :

" Years ago I had a 3914 which I now regret selling. But I know those are getting hard to find and darned expensive."

Not really! I have picked up two, a 3914 and a 3953, here on the Forum classifieds during this year - both were less than $400.00. My son just picked a 59 locally for $250.00.

Deals are out there, it seems everyone wants plastic these days.

UPDATE: Well, once in a while even a blind pig finds an acorn. Yesterday I managed to trade my way into a LNIB Sig P239. Both the seller and I were happy with the deal and best of all, I'm not out any cash.
Its a little bit bigger and heavier than I expected, but it does feel good in my hand. I like Sigs. I already own a P220 and have shot the P226. The P239 is considerably smaller. I think this is going to work out quite well.
Now the bad news. It came with two mags, but I wanted at least one more. Sig discontinued this gun a couple of years ago and extra magazines are all but impossible to find. Even Sig no longer lists them on their website. And all the usual suspects are also out. You can find a few on GB and other auction sites, but they want around $80 as a starting bid. Just on a hunch, I went down to a LGS and sure enough, they had some. Brand new in the wrap. They were $49 each, but that's still a lot better than on the internet. So I bought two, bringing my total to four.
Unfortunately, the weather forecast is for rain the rest of the week. So it'll probably be next week before i get a chance to try it out.
On the bright side, I did find what I was looking for and did it without spending a small fortune. I'm happy.

Grayfox, a Sig pistol should work in the rain, half of the twelve I still own have. A Sig customer service rep told me last week that P239 parts kits and magazines should be back in stock soon.

Great. The 239 always interested me but I never found one at an attractive price when I was looking. The 938 is smaller and lighter but if you’re happy with your current small-and-light battery that doesn’t matter. Really, the only other logical choice you had was the 3913/3914/CS9, and since our friends in Springfield feel like they can’t be bothered to support these models that kind of takes a little of the fun out of that option. Good luck with the 239!

Thumbs up

Excellent choice IMHO. Had two 9mm 239s at different times. Flawlessly reliable little guns. Switched to carrying a 3913 only because it fit me better.
