Gentlemen:
I ran across this pic and found it both interesting and somewhat incongruous. The photo was taken in September, 1963 in Johannesburg while apartheid was the law of the land. The ladies are sharpening their marksmanship skills with what appear to be Ruger Mark I .22 LR pistols.
The news photo caption reads "Johannesburg housewives fire pistols at a target during one of the weekly 'pistol parties' in the capital of jittery, white supremacist South Africa. These women belong to a pistol club of women aged 25 to 61 who bring coffee and sandwiches to the range for a midmorning break in practice."
I am not sure about the outfits they are wearing, but the Rugers were probably a good choice for this purpose.
