My Mark IV is the only pistol I had lock up on me-the slide locked back.
A completely disassembly revealed residue in the trigger bar channel, a thorough cleaning resolved that.

I've had two Series 70 Colts for a long time, one a Gold Cup, the other a regular Government model. Mine have been fired considerably and I've never had a collet bushing fail. There has been mention of that "weakness" since these guns became available.

Like AR15s, Colt 1911-type pistols may cost a little more than the copies, but they are more desirable and easier to sell on the used market and retain value better.

My first handgun, which I purchased used, was a Mk IV Series 70 45. It was wearing a set of Bubba installed Micro adjustable sights. It cost me the grand sum of $125! I still have it. It has had Millet fixed sights, and now Millet adjustable installed over the past 40+ years. It is, and always will be, my SHTF go to pistol. I love my Smiths, but there is something about having a trusty 1911 at hand when the chips are down!

My son took a job in NYC a bunch of years ago and has been living in NJ. I got him a S&W 1911 for graduation, which he's afraid to take with him. He and his family of three came to visit last month and we went out to shoot it and several other guns. It was wonderful and something I wish we could do a lot more often. I'd take the time with my son and his family over any gun, any time.
P.S. He can still outshoot me.
