Paid for my first GLOCK today.

It's a model 27 in 40 caliber, Gen 4, on consignment at a LGS.

An LEO's backup piece. Doesn't look like it was shot much.

Came with 3 mags plus all the various back straps.

I've never had a 40 S&W pistol, but have shot a buddie's 27 a few times.

Looking forward to trying it out.

Looks like I'll have to read up on various ammo choices.

Carried a Glock 27 on my ankle as a back-up to a Glock 22 for many, many years.
Love my S&W's and my 1911's but 99% of the time, I carry a Glock.

I have a Gen 3 M27. IMHO, the M27 is an amazing combination of power and reliability in an really small gun. Mine has been shot a lot. It doesn't matter what kind of ammo. Given range reloads, white box, hollow points, or whatever, it always fires. This gun has never failed to fire. Mine is bone stock except for the sights.

Since I am a hardcore revolver guy I seldom carry it. I know that doesn't make a lot of sense. I mostly pocket carry and the M27 is a bit large for that. If I am carrying a holster gun, it is a large magnum revolver.

Last Saturday was the birthday of our shooting club;90 years old.For the occasion,we had an open house;people could come in and for a nominal fee($5)try a few guns.
I was range instructor and the gun I was assigned to was a 9mm Glock.I am a revolver guy and the few autos I have are all steel framed.
After seing non''gun familiar'' people shoot the Glock,I came to a few conclusions:
A)the gun is easy to use
B)the learning curve for using it safely is an easy one to negociate
C)the gun is reliable(even 90 pounds ladies with limp wrist wouldn't jam it)
This is not an extensive test but it helped giving me a different look on Glocks.Would I buy one?No.But I now have more respect for them.

Its just sad to see something like that written down. It should say, bought a Glock, shot it a lot and I love it. But no, you just payed for it. That is just wrong.

I have all flavors of hand guns & also a lonely G23C which I'll never let go. Goes bang every time and also a great CC weapon as well. Some say shooting a 40 is a bit stout on recoil but I disagree.

Congrats, from a Glock fan. I have the 9mm version, in gen 3. Its been a great gun for the 11 or so years I've had it

I understand buying outcasts. I have six Para Ordnance 1911s: 9 MM, 40 S&W, 45 ACP. Never had a function problem with any of them. Had the P40-16 at the range last Saturday. Shot 400 rounds of hodge podge ammo, the only problem was dud primers. Fifty yards got to be a tough hold on a bullseye target.

There is a lot of complaints about the 40 S&W but to me it's a cartridge that makes a lot of sense and has impressive ballistics. It does have a bit more snap to it but nothing crazy. I "know" all you need is a 9MM until you don't.

.40 S&W didn't get any worse, 9mm just got a little better. Really, these days, you can't knock the performance of either cartridge.

Understand that when I say this, I'm not a particularly huge fan of .40 S&W--I don't even own one. I just happen to think that it's currently overlooked in the 9mm resurgence. There are some really great deals to be had.

I also don't think it's any particular kind of magic, just another notch in the size/performance spectrum, just the same as all the other cartridges are neither magic nor a dumpster fire.

Suggestion get the magazine for the Model 23 and the adapter to fill in at the end of the grip. A guy at the range claimed it was the perfect thing to control the little Glock in .40.

Who has a Glock around somewhere, but I prefer the SWaMPy 9c.

Instead, i'd suggest just getting a Glock 23.

An S&W revolver is usually my go-to for carry and what I most often have immediately available around the house, but I also own four 9mm Glocks primarily for those possible home/hotel defense scenarios where higher capacity might be useful or even necessary. I view Glocks as simple and reliable self-defense tools and have never understood why they are so often the target of animosity.

Wash your hands before you handle an S&W.


Seriously, I don't get the hate we see so much of.
They're plastic.
They're not real pretty.
They work like a charm. They'll sling a bunch of bullets anywhere, anytime.
If you prefer to own something else, buy it and move along.....

As I type this, I own quite a few S&W's (double digits..not really sure how many without checking the safe) and 3 Glocks. The S&W's are for fun and because I like them. The Glocks are for using (bedside gun, truck gun and a carry gun). Two of the Glocks are .40's and one is 9mm.....I like both calibers.

I've never been of the opinion someone has to be a S&W guy or a Glock guy......or Colt,Ruger, Kahr,Walther etc....guy. I like most all of them. There are a couple of makes that I will not buy, but these are the makes proven to be "problems waiting to happen".

I'm a revolver man but not a purist. The only two Glocks I've owned (long gone) were both second generation, a 22 and a 19. Both were completely satisfactory, absolutely reliable, and more accurate than I could shoot them without a rest. I wish I had kept the 19.

I don't understand the hatred for Glocks. No, they aren't blue steel and wood. No, they aren't 1911's. No, you can argue that they don't have "soul", which I take to mean they aren't traditional. But if your bacon is in peril, they're pretty damn effective tools for saving it.

A Glock 26 goes with me every work day. Small pistol I shoot very well and with a G19 magazine holds 16 rounds.
The guy running the bowling pin matches has spiced it up combining the pins with a steel challenge. Lots of fun but a lot of rounds fired. My 1911 with 10 round mags suddenly lacks capacity and I'm carrying a lot of mags. Thought about a double stack 1911 but the prices... Took advantage of Glock's blue label for Vets program and have a G41 coming.

I was able to purchase a couple of buddies G27s after their respective departments transitioned away from the 40 cal round. Hard to turn down a Glock for $300.

The G27 has a bit of snap to it, but both seem really accurate for such a small pistol. Packs a lot of power for its' size.

I'm still resisting the polymer wave, but I also know that when the zombie apocalypse occurs, there will far more Glocks and Glock magazines to be found than there will be S&W 69xx pistols and magazines to be found.

I am often tempted to buy a Glock or an M&P for the warranty and parts availability, but I continue to resist.

I inherited a Glock 31. Wasn't sure what to do with it at first, then I shot it some and started to warm up to it. Now I have a Lone Wolf conversion barrel allowing it to shoot 9mm cast bullets. It ain't purty but it sure shoots.

I handload so no love for Glocks in 40. As a handloader I have no love for the 40 in any platform and will probably never own one unless I find a great deal on a M610 revolver which will fire 40s in addition to 10MM.

I do have a G19 w frame mods so it fits my hand. I bought it that way for less than the going rate for a used G19. Seems like Glock fanboys never heard of ROBAR so I felt comfortable that the grip frame reduction was done right. I got it for about $100 less than what comparable condtion G19s were selling for. All I have done other than buy spare mags was install a set of big dot night sights that i can see even wo my RX eyeware. (BTW guys this is a great mod on a nightstand gun). 100% reliable. Easy to shoot but doesn't balance well for me. I shoot revolvers and 1911s better.

Far from my 1st choice for any use except:
1 truck gun and
2 if I had to train and arm a bunch of non-gunguys to carry on a tight budget, I'd go w G19s.
For a truck gun it shoots a bunch of times, it is reliable and if it gets stolen it's easy and fairly cheap to replace.

I don't have a problem w Glocks in 9mm, I just dont feel any love for them. I do accept them for what they are. I do chuckle to myself when I see a Glock fanboy replacing all kinds of stuff on a pistol that is always going to be a piece of combat Tupperware no matter what you do to it. I'm just waiting to see a fanboy glue a set of stag slabs on one! I'm sure that someone somewhere has had a framing hammer engraved!

Very respectfully, I guess I don't understand the lead in to your post. I also handload and have loaded and shot thousands of rounds of my .40 S&W (as well as 9mm), mostly through Glocks, with nary a problem.

Like all reloadable rounds, there are books which provide guidelines with parameters that a reloader would be wise to stay within when reloading any ammo, .40 S&W is no different. I have reloaded specific sequestered .40 S&W brass as many as 10 times without a single mishap, even with the so called unsupported Glock chamber. Yeah, I've seen how the internet booger man has scared some folks into thinking that reloaded .40 brass that had been fired in a Glock is somehow a widow maker. It just ain't so. Competent reloaders should have no more problems with reloading and shooting .40 S&W ammo than any other ammo.

Lastly, as a LEO and firearms instructor who has spent a lot of time the last couple of decades on LE shooting ranges, I have seen many more .38's blown up due to reloaded ammo than all other calibers combined. My department has been issuing .40 S&W Glocks for over 15 years and I have never seen a .40 kaboom. It seems only on the internet from about 20 years ago does this happen with frequency.

I often forget that I dont like Glock 19s. I have bough 4 of them various generations over 20 years and immediately sell them. Hope you enjoy yours but they sure dont work for me

Have a Glock 19, 26, and 43. I wouldn’t expect them to fail me when I need them the most.

Need parts? Check. LGS carries them.
Need a holster? Check. LGS has them.

I've seen budged 40 cases from rounds fired out of a Gock. Die makers are making dies bc of the Glock budge. That tells me it happens. Doesn't mean it always happens but it happens.

2nd I haven't had one kaboom in my hands but I've seen photos that werent from the net. They were from my gunsmith's camera of one of his customer's guns. He showed me bc customer wanted a lawyer. I declined bc kaboomed pistol w factory ammo but potential client was mad but not injured. No injury no money and a third of no money is I'm out the case expenses even if I won the case.

If I want a fast bullet I'll shoot a 9mm. If I want a big bullet I'll shoot a 45. Dont need something between those two choices and don't need another pistol cartridge to load for.

All that adds up to I can't feel any love for a 40. Sorry if I'm blunt but long day and I'm tired. Happy for you if you love a 40 or a Glock so chambered.

Forgot to mention I've seen a lot of kaboomed 38s and 44s but only 1 due to factory ammo. It was a 38 Davis designer that would and did chamber a 357 mag round. Someone loaded it and handed it to a 12 year old kid whose new nickname was Nubby. Rest of blown 38s and 44s I've seen were most likely due to bad handload. I know a guy who is dyslexic who wanted to learn to reload. To him 14.0 in the manual was 41.0. When I found out he was dyslexic I told him to buy some components and bring me his guns and I'd load for him. He is a good friend and even after knowing him pretty well I didn't know he was dyslexic. No IQ test to buy loading gear!

38 and 44 Special kabooms are almost certainly due to a double charge of a fast burning powder such as Bullseye or W-231.

Glock kabooms have happened. The early generation Glock chambers were of maximum diameter and the feed ramp cut fairly deep into the chamber. The reduced support for the cartridge case head to the point that fired cases displayed a prominent bulge, referred to as "the Glock smile". With the introduction of the high pressure 40 S&W cartridge, the unsupported case head issue became an even more serious issue. Even more serious when brass fired in a Glock was reloaded. The weakened case head could let go, especially when loaded to maximum pressure.

That was a long time ago and Glock has changed the design of their chambers and feed ramps with the introduction of the 3rd generation pistols to reduce brass bulging, but the early generation Glocks in all calibers did bulge the brass, sometimes to dangerous levels.

Glocks rock. I may like S&W revolvers the best, but I like all guns, cheap, expensive, whatever. They're all fun to me.

I've had a Glock 42 .380 a while that I like, but full size Glocks have come and gone until I recently got this 19X - full size frame, commander-ish barrel and slide - love it.

I purchased my Glock 27 on a whim, didn’t own one and didn’t like them but I got a good deal on it. Wanted something in a .40 and I’ve never been sorry I bought it. It’s one of the best shooting handguns that I own!
Since then I have also purchased a Glock 33 and like it as well.

Well, I have a couple of Glocks as well, a Model 27, like yours, but a 3rd gen., and a Model 23. Both 40 S&W caliber. They were my last duty guns before I retired. I have been to a couple of Glock armorers schools, and to the Glock transition training classes. I was lead on a committee that chose the Glock when we transitioned from S&W revolvers (66 no dash).

They are reliable, trouble free guns that will never win a beauty contest, but are ultra dependable.

But now that I am retired, and my needs are different, I carry a S&W 340 PD most of the time.

I was a one time Glock hater. I hated them for years. I hated them because I hadn't/didn't owned, much less shot one. Yeah, I was a snob. Then, a buddy insisted I shoot his, a G20. My mind changed right then and there.

As of now, I own;

Gen 2 G20 10mm
Gen 4 G21 45ACP
Gen 3 G22 RTF II 40S&W
Gen 3 G23 40S&W
Gen 4 G27 40S&W
Gen 3 G35 40S&W

With the exception of the G20, all are LE trades and averaged $300. Also, with the exception of G21, they all have conversion barrels for 9mm and 357SiG. The G20 has conversion barrels for 40S&W in addition to the 357SiG. The only mods I do is replace the recoil springs and add a factory extended slide stop release.

The majority of my handgun collection are LE trades and milsurps, and 40 S&Ws no matter the make, are an absolute bargain!

I recommend conversion barrels 40s.

Am I a Glock Fanboy? I don't know...but I'm a LE trade fanatic!!! I'm eagerly awaiting Gen 5 trades!!!
