Since today is a federal holiday, and the deadline fell on the weekend, and I would guess that they will wait at least a week, we still have some time to go. I'm surprised that only 17,000 applications were received!!

I sure don t know what is going to happen, but I've got a little "mad" money tucked away just in case.

Best Regards, Les

I didn't apply either because I felt it would be kind of unfair. I bought two birth year 1942 Colt 1911A1s many years ago. One was all original parts; the other had some change-outs. They're in very good condition so I figure some desk soldiers had them. I and a number of good friends served 1964-1968. Those who had 1911s issued to them all agreed they were rattle-traps they couldn't hit a barn with. While the guns certainly did rattle the real problem was the Army never really trained people with them. Once a year and a few rounds was about it.

Good luck to everyone who really wants one. Those who are profiteers might get a rude surprise when they sell. Then again, if the next President isn't NRA approved the DCM will be ordered to destroy the inventory.

Well that's encouraging. I would have figured the number would have been north of 50,000.

You've personally seen them, all 8,000 of them, and inspected them? How did you reach this conclusion?

Not sure where you get the idea they're "non-firing". These pistols aren't replicas or toy guns. The barrels aren't plugged. They're in working condition. The CMP isn't going to sell a gun that doesn't work.

I don't believe all of them will be Frankenguns, either. I'm sure some will have been rearsenaled/reworked. Maybe the majority of them. But others will be original, I think. "Frankengun", by the way, is sort of a nebulous term. What about a vintage 27-2 that's had the rear sight blade replaced? Or a 29-2 that's had the front sight insert replaced? Are those Frankenguns?

If you think $850 is an "outrageous" price for a fully functional 1911A1 of WWII vintage, then you're completely out of the loop when it comes to the current market for these guns.

Only 17,000? No surprise with all the negative posts here and around the net.
“It’s overpriced, they got them cheap and trying to make a killing, give them to GI’s only, they abandoned their mission, I can get a Garand for fill in the blank”(not sure how anyone compares a Garand to a WW2 1911 ), etc.
I have a 50/50 chance this round, that’s as good as can be expected.

Default CMP 1911 Update

According to a post today on the CMP 1911 Forum, calls are going out from CMP staff to individuals that filed application packets for the M1911 pistols. So, it sounds like the "random number generator" has been run and spit out the list of successful applicants. The post states that it may be an additional 60 days before shipping.

I’ve never seen 12 pages of posts appear so fast once that guy posted he got the call!

The wait truly begins now. Notice they didn’t notify anyone of their place in line before they started calling.

Yeah...I've been following this with a degree of interest as well. Personally I would rather the guys in Anniston spent their time getting the orders made and boxed up and shipped, rather than worrying about all the guys who are fretting about where they stand, and whether they forgot something in the package, and so on!!

I guess I'm as keyed up as anyone, but if those guys down there have to stop and answer questions all day long they will take that much longer to do the actual job of pulling this really complicated process together.

Just my two cents. I'm anxious as well.

Thanks for the heads up, I went over to the CMP forum as well, and will lurk there waiting to see what info leaks out.

Good luck everyone!!

Best Regards, Les

According to the forum, sounds like the lucky ones are starting to get phone calls from CMP for payment info. Also someone over on 1911 forum got a call also.

I got this in e-mail from CMP today. They're working on it. Its just gonna take some time.

1911 UPDATE - NOVEMBER 6TH

Our Random Number Generator (RNG) has selected random numbers for all the packets received. We are working on assigning those random numbers to the 19,000 packets we have received. This will take some time - PLEASE BE PATIENT! It may take 30-60 days to inform you of your random number. Please DO NOT CONTACT US ASKING WHAT YOUR NUMBER IS.

As we process orders, we will call customers as we work through the list.

**If your information has changed (you have moved or your FFL has gone out of business), please DO NOT CONTACT US. You may update us when your number is selected and we contact you.

WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING ORDER PACKETS.

Everyone will be notified if their order packet was not accepted so please be patient and bear with us.

Currently, we do not have a date when we will begin auction sales. Once that is determined, we will update our customers

Please check our website for updates - 1911 Information - Civilian Marksmanship ProgramCivilian Marksmanship Program.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Feel free to join the 1911 discussions on the CMP Forum at
CMP 1911 - CMP Forums.

Patiently (!) waiting for an email in Colorado. Alternative plans (or in addition to a CMP 1911) include a Manurhin MR73 and a Fulton Armory FAR-15 A1. Patience is a virtue, yeah, right.

I sent mine in on 9/18 just to see if I got lucky. If not I will use the money I would have spend on this one on something else. No big deal really.

A retired FBI buddy of mine got a call. All they had were Service Grades, and they told him it would be at least 60 days before it shipped.

No call or email for me yet.

Rather than open every packet and verify the paperwork is correct, which will take months, why not just send out the numbers generated by the random number generator, and advise everybody that if their number is reached and packet is wrong, then it will be discarded and next number called?

They have &000 guns. Some will go to auction. They got 19,000 packets. Say 2000 are wrong, which I doubt since people had months and probably double checked. But say that’s the number. New packets won’t sven be looked at until the initial list is exhausted. That’s gonna be a couple of years. Just let people know where they are already.

Depending on how many employees are opening 20,000 packets and checking each one, it’s gonna be a while.

Because then every halfwit who didn't win the lottery to buy a battered parts gun will complain loudly and frequently about how the CMP just threw out their appl'kashun.

Got an email Tuesday. Number 15xx! The only other lottery I won was in 1969! Sent to a beautiful island off the South Carolina Coast to train with the few and proud for an exciting senior trip to exotic lands, etc., etc..... should, hopefully, maybe, get an arsenal rebuild from Anniston Army Depot and relegated to wartime ready storage. Stay tuned for updates!

So let them complain. Who’s going to listen? The CMP sells every rifle they have. The 1911’s will be no different. Those who complain won’t affect that. If their paperwork was incorrect then they have nothing to complain about. They had months to quadruple check the paperwork. If they’re too stupid to follow directions then they’re too stupid to own a gun, anyway.

If I get one this nice I will be one happy boy.

My buddy got his today.

1944 Colt serial number, unmarked slide.

He says the color difference between slide and frame is the result of a strong flash. In the hand they are much closer match.

He's delighted. I would be too. No joy from CMP for me yet. Oh well, somebody has to be number 19,000.

For what it's worth, I just got an email that my number was in the 2900's. I'm encouraged! But then with my bureaucracy in the state of NJ, I now have to APPLY for a permit to purchase said 1911, in addition to needing my current and valid Firearms ID Card, for retrieving it, whenever (if) it ever becomes available to me!

Not me. I owned a 1911 once. A stainless remington. Nice gun but for punching paper I have 9MM and revolvers. I sold it.

But these 1911’s are history in tbe hand. Mine will be a perfect companion to my M1 Garands. Probably shoot 100 rounds a year through it. Might not even get reloading dies to load for it, I might shoot it that little. But I am gonna love owning one just as I do my Garands.

Got called on Friday, 11/30 for payment and confirmation of shipping information. Notified Monday that pistol being shipped Fedex overnight to FFL, arrived yesterday AM, FFL called, picked up from FFL. 1943 Remington-Rand that was rebuilt at Letterkenny Arsenal in 1985. Has a barrel with a CAGE number 45 auto, 85. From overall appearance, only rebuilt this one time. Very good bushing to barrel to frame fit. Good slide to frame fit as well. Will post pics when I figure out how. Bye the by, comes in a coyote pelican case, foam cut out for pistol and magazine, along with a very nice certificate with serial #, make and buyers name, cleaning rod, chamber flag and lock. Not a beater or rattle trap. One guy at the FFL offered me $1500 for it and didn’t bat an eye! I imgur.com/user/usmc13369

Will post pics when I figure out how. Bye the by, comes in a coyote pelican case, foam cut out for pistol and magazine, along with a very nice certificate with serial #, make and buyers name, cleaning rod, chamber flag and lock. Not a beater or rattle trap. One guy at the FFL offered me $1500 for it and didn’t bat an eye!@0
Interesting, one of our friends dad worked at Letterkenny in the 60’s to 80’s, they lived in Chambersburg PA.

Congrats to all that are scoring these historical arms.

I sent my packet in but I haven't received either a number or notification that I missed some requirement, not sure if I am still in the running or not!

Nothing here yet, to be honest have kind of pushed it out of my mind. I’ve got other “priorities”, so when or if it happens, it happens. I’m pretty sure my paperwork was good, so I’ll eventually get one this release or next provided nothing drastic politically happens.

Nada for me. They’re getting somewhere near the 4000 range right now. This is how drawings ALWAYS go for me. By now I’m used to it.

It’s going way slower than they anticipated. The CMP forum doesn’t have a random number generator above 4374. That’s out of 19000 numbers. The numbers don’t radically jump so I think they’re pretty accurate. Somebody with 2360 just got the call. I’m 2927 so I’m thinking 3 weeks or so for call. They’ve all been service grades and the pics on that forum of what guys are getting have been outstanding. Far from the “beat up overpriced pieces of junk” that some were predicting. And I have heard that the numbers started at 1000. Don’t know why.

But getting a number doesn’t mean your packet was right. I checked my packet like 20 times so I know it was complete. I stood and watched as my ffl faxed AND emailed his info. But I still get worried that something g got screwed up. The unanticipated delays to get your number in line means probably a delay in notifying you if you were rejected and for what reason. If they can call for payment, I hope something as simple as a lost email from an ffl can be corrected with a phone call as well. IF ( a BIG if) congress authorizes another round of this, I suspect they will change their methods. They are literally assigning numbers by hand and physically emailing 19000 people. Then they’re opening the packets assigned a number and physically checking them before a call is made.

I got the number 4232 on 1/16/2019 - the email said it could take up to 90 days for me to hear anything further.

I am quite encouraged to hear about the quality of the field grade guns that have gone out so far.

I am fan of the CMP and all that they do. I submitted a packet and am (Im)patiently waiting for my RNG. Since submitting my packet I have so far purchased one firearm and one car in an effort to tide myself over. At least I am no longer checking my junk email file every 15min. Monday through Friday, I now check every 4 hours or so. My slush fund can handle a CMP 1911, unless I find both the Model 10 and Model 18 I am always looking for. I am actually enjoying the anticipatory excitement. Good Luck Everyone!

I’m 2927. But I’ve been following the posts on the CMP forums. They’re not calling people exactly in order. The moderator there who works for the CMP explained it. Several people are calling and they’re all working from different piles. So number 1895 got his call but number 1840 still hadn’t. That’s the part that sucks. So you’re wondering if you screwed up your packet and aren’t getting a gun. If you did, they’ll notify you at a later date.

But good news is with your number and mine, we are gonna get a gun. But I know I’m gonna be annoyed when somebody with a number beyond 2927 posts they got the call and I’m still waiting.

I see that the RGN numbers are over 7,000 as of today. I think that they are shipping to number 3,233 now. So far, all reports are that they have only shipped "Service Grade" pistols. Those that have been posted on the CMP 1911 forum look pretty good to me, and I would be happy with one if they last long enough to get to my number of 4,677!!

Good Luck to all of my forum friends who are participating in the lottery!!!

Don't give up yet!! Every one is supposed to get a number, whether there are enough pistols or not. And not everyone who is called is buying the gun, so there will be more numbers called than pistols. I have npbeen hanging out over on the CMP 1911 forum a little, and there is a lot of good info coming out.

Here's a thread that I just link upped on another of ours :

GAO Offers Insight on the CMP 1911 Program - CMP Forums

Best Regards, Les
