Default Ruger SP101 Gold Trigger & Hammer

Just picked up a NIB Ruger SP101 .357 with gold hammer and trigger. It is product number KSP-321X-GLD. Serial number is 576-638xx. First, wondering what the production date is? Secondly, I Googled these and know that they are a TALO special. Mine had the gold trigger, hammer, and carved grip inserts with the Ruger logo. Some have special burled Walnut grips, some have black plastic grips, and some have the grips like mine. Some have gold trigger and hammer and some also include gold trigger release. Were these all one run with variations within the run or were there different batches run at different times? One search says that 650 were produced in 2002. Any input would be appreciated.

I've found out that it is apparently a Banger's Distributor Exclusive.

One other thing you may not have noticed is that the cylinder is slightly tapered towards the front. I think these we a Wiley Clap variation.

I will have to check it out when I get home. Hadn't noticed the taper. It was a good bargain at $400. Someone needed the money.

The 576 serial prefix is a recent production gun, I would guess somewhere around 2015. Also, that is the tapered cylinder that they introduced on the Wiley Clapp 101's a few years ago. Although gold accent's aren't my thing that is still a nice 101 at a great price.

Have you used full power .357 in one of these guns? Seems like it might be a little much.

I am interested in these guns, looks like a really durable little unit.

I have used .357 many years ago. I have not yet shot this one. When I get around to it, I will try the .357 rounds. But suspect that they may be a little stout for me due to having some small cysts in my shooting hand. If they prove to be too much, I will restrict it to .38 +P ammo.

The 110gr JHP magnum rounds by R-P/W-W are good for use in steel frame snubs like your Ruger as theey recoil less. The 125gr R-P Golden Sabre .357 has been recommended to me as a 'medium' magnum load but I have yet to try it. I also like CCI's .357 158gr 'medium' JHP load in snubs (or any .357, for that matter). An aluminum-cased practice load, maybe, but I've carried it with complete confidence. Good shooting!

I received this information from a member over at the Ruger forum:

"Larry:
That model came out in 2017. Not sure how many were done because that is always a tightly held secret with the distributor as well as Ruger, not sure why they do that because the rarity or uniqueness of something would seem to help sell guns, but I"m beating a dead horse here.
I first reported on this one in the August 2017 issue of Red Eagle News Exchange, as follows...

An SP101 Distributor special is Ruger's model 5781 that is being offered by Bangers. It is a stainless .357 Mag. with 2.25" barrel and Titaniam Nitride hammer and trigger (gold color on each component). The only examples seen at this time is 576-43392. The actual catalog number is not yet known. Ruger’s website picture of this model appears to be 576-46655 but this is not confirmed. This one isn’t making much of a “splash” on gunbroker.com so will probably be tough to come by in the future.

I now believe the sn in Ruger's picture is probably 576-46658. I have also heard of 576-44771.
Let me know the full serial number of your example so i can add it to my notes.
Thanks!!
Chad"

Chad also went on to say that this particular model, 5781, would probably be hard to come by in the future. He does not think there were that many made due to their lack of availability on GunBroker. I don't really care for safe queens. I bought this one because it was a good price and is NIB. I think this one will sit in the safe for a while.
