My 1927 99 G:
It has had several optics rigs over the years under my stewardship.
It came with a rear leaf + old style front post. The first iteration was to install an old Lyman aperture. With the Lyman it was 18 inches high at 20 yards and I swapped in a much higher front post and got excellent results with three rounds at 100 yards (magenta background):
Then for fun I got a Stith mount with a Lyman Alaskan on eBay. It looked great:
But the rear ring was a bit loose and I do not have much mechanical ability.
So, with disclosure of the loose ring, I sold the Stith and the Alaskan.
The Lyman aperture was also sold.
I lost a little selling the Stith/Alaskan and made a little selling the Lyman aperture.
So now it is back to a rear leaf and the original lower front post.
The rear leaf is the old stlye with an adjustment screw and is marked "Savage"
But I had no idea if it would be anywhere near on paper. Windage or Elevation.
So I took a 5.56 laser bore sighting cartridge and dropped it into the chamber. With a little playing with my finger I was able to seat the small cartridge and get a nice small spot on the wall across the room. The rear leaf and front post look good enough for a first shot on a big piece of paper at 25 yards.
I will let the Forum know how it turns out
