Remington Mohawk fans?
Anyone else a fan of these great little guns.
I have a couple in 6mm Remington, a 308 and picked up a 350 magnum, just because. They were an economy model back in the day, pressed checkering, blind magazine with a plastic trigger guard and bottom of magazine. My first one was a little 222. I shot a lot of prairie dogs with and I regret trading away. Have had the 308 for about 40 years and have shot lots of deer with it and a couple of elk. Easy to carry, 18.5" barrels don't stick up over your shoulder much and hang up when you duck under stuff. Everyone I have owned has been accurate. I picked up a second 6mm for my step daughters to use learning to hunt deer.. I wasn't that surprised when I sighted it in with the scope I mounted and got a sub 1" 3 shot group once I dialed it in with 100gr spires. The 350 is a bit different. Brass is hard to come by, but not hard to make from 7 mm mag brass which I have lots of and no 7mm mag. The recoil is substantial in such a light gun. Going to get a better but pad for it. If I ever decide to go bear hunting it will get its chance. Plus, I can shoot some jacket and cast 357 mag plinkers in it.
Because I mount scopes on them the raise vent rib and front sight goes away to be replace by fuluch screws, except on the 350 mag which I used quick dismount mounts on.
They come in 222, 223, 243, 6mm, 308, 6.5 Remington mag, 35 Remington and 350 Remington mag. Used to be inexpensive, but now run about $600 up on the used market. I wouldn't mind finding a good deal on a 223 model as I have a couple other 223s. The 243 are great, but, have nothing on the 6mms, the 6.5 mag seams a waste with a short barrel length
The Remington single shot XP100s use the same action, just single shot with no magazine cut out and a setup to move the trigger forward. I have an XP in 221 Fireball and picked up another in 7mm BR. The 7mm barrel isn't so hot and rather than do something about that and add a caliber to my reloading, I have picked up a model 600 6mm barrel I am going to cut to 15" and install. I have heard that the XP 100 action was used for some bench rest guns and have seen some neat thumb hole stocks that kept the forward trigger to make an real short setup.
Like to hear from some other Mohawk 600, 660 XP100 owners.

Not an owner, but I had the opportunity to shoot one a long time ago. A buddy of mine's father had one in .243 Win. I liked it quite a bit.
The 6mm or .243 is a winner in the 600. They are a perfect match. I wouldn't mind owning one if I found it at a good price, or one in .35 Remington. You just can't find them at economy line prices anymore..lol!

They're starting to become collectible in my area. I pick them up when the price is right!

Have had several over the years... I am down to just one 60s vintage Model 600 .350 RM right now...just a wonderful hunting gun...
A VERY unappreciated line of guns...

These guns were ahead of their time: they are the original Scout rifles.
I’ve used my Model 660 in 350 Remington Magnum for many years for deer and elk. I have it set up with a forward mounted 2 1/2 power scope and 3 point sling attachment for the Ching sling.
The 1” moa accuracy at 100 yards is nice, but secondary to the great handling that makes these guns special.
If you’re actually going to hunt with a gun, you can’t beat these rifles. They’re quite inexpensive, even today, for what you’re getting in these rifles.

Shot several mule deer with one in .308 and some whitetail in 6mm. Like them both, especially the .308. What handy little rifles.
Never could see much difference between the 6mm and the .243. Look to be about the same thing to me.

I have a camo painted one in 243. It’s glass bedded and pillared. When the plastic bottom broke, I replaced it with a steel bottom from Brownell’s. It has been my coyote rifle for over 15 years and has accounted for numerous coyotes, bobcats and other varmints that came into the call. This December it’s going to my oldest grandson as his first deer rifle.

Had one Mohawk in 308. Was super accurate. Gave up deer hunting so didn’t need a 18” carbine

Have a 600 in 350RM that I shot a black bear in Canada with a long time ago. Left a big exit hole. Have also loaded it down with 125 gr jacketed hollow point handgun bullets. They make a great woodchuck round.

I bought this Remington Mohawk 600 .308 in the summer of 1979. I hunted deer with it several seasons. I added the recoil pad and a Neil Jones aluminum trigger guard/floorplate to replace the hideous plastic one. The scope is a Bushnell 1.5 x 4 in Simmons rings and mount. It is a very accurate gun with a free floating barrel and very fast handling. The Model 600's, in regular grade or the birch stocked economy Mohawk Models, which I believe were made for "big box" retailers are really excellent guns, they just won't win any beauty contests. My buddy hunted with one, a regular model with the laminated stock and vent rib in 6.5 Magnum with an old Bushnell Scopechief scope that had a feature called a "Command Post" that flipped a heavier reticle bar up in the lower half of the vertical crosshairs. A great feature for a brush gun. He called it "Old Stumpy".
It sure did the trick on muleys.

Recently picked up a used one in 243 at LGS. Someone "customized"
the bolt handle, I refinished the wood. Like the size, will see how it shoots
soon.
