Colt Frontier Six Shooter 1906...
Picked up this nice Colt .44-40 today. In spite of a few sprinkles from Hurricane Rosa I snapped a quick photo...

You got sprinkles from a hurricane IN DEATH VALLEY?!!
But I sometimes think that Texas gets some rain from hurricanes that hit the eastern US.
My late father endured a typhoon en route to Okinawa in 1945 and said it was scary and miserable. And model Petra Nemcova has so eloquently expressed what happened to her and her late fiance in the Thai tsunami of about 2004... I'm glad that I live well inland. All we face is tornadoes.
That's a fine looking Frontier Six Shooter. I prefer .45 Colt as my favorite caliber in those guns, but admit, the .44-40 probably kills as well in most cases. I think the .45 penetrates better in really big animals, but know of one grizzly decked by a single shot from a 7.5 inch barrelled Colt in .44-40.
You probably read about that one in Elmer Keith's, Sixguns.
Thanks for that truly fine photo of an iconic Colt gun.

Although I have a bunch of Colt's that are lettered, I'm not in the habit.
Mostly they just letter to a hardware distributor.

First, that is an exceptionally nice FSS! Great find.
Second, while Colt Historian letters may usually identify no more than a retailer (hardware store, etc) shipped to, the occasional exception can make a huge difference! Revolvers shipped to police departments, railroad police, express companies, and named individuals are not uncommon, and each will add varying degrees of desirability (either monetary value or just ease of sale).
My 1914 Colt Frontier Six Shooter lettered to a company in El Paso, Texas. When the piece was restored by Tyler Gun Works (Bobby Tyler, Friona, Texas) Bobby informed me that Texas collectors will regularly pay premium prices for guns originally shipped to Texas, and sometimes even the most mundane company name may add historical significance to collectors.
At my last experience Colt's Historian will provide expedited service for a $150 fee (credit cards accepted), including a telephone report of archived information and the Historian's letter following in the mail. Upon request they will address the letter "TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN" rather than your name and address, which appeals to some collectors.
With these vintage and antique Colts value is all about condition and provenance. Having the Historian's letter provides a benchmark of credibility, at the least, and could provide much more.
