I have been trying to find a load or a way to avoid it, but I am afraid I am going to have to reline the barrel of my old 1892 Winchester. My local gunsmith does this and since there is no bluing left sweating the liner in after he drills it out isn't that big of a deal. I tried .313" lead bullets and even .315" paper patched bullets. After the first couple of bullets being somewhere near the target, the accuracy just goes out the window. There is rifling, but very shallow.

I think most gunsmiths who do barrel lining use Loctite instead of solder these days.

I am going to give the gun one more chance before I order the liner. I had used some JB bore paste before to clean it, so I went with that again and the barrel looks a lot better. I spent well over an hour just on the barrel this morning. There's rifling but it's just shallow. So I am going to load up a few rounds today (it's raining so I have nothing else to do) with some Unique powder and 2400 in different loads and I am going to seat the bullets farther out to get a better chance of contacting the rifling to see what I get. One things for sure, no one can say I didn't try. If not, then I will end up ordering the liner.

Sadly it's as good as it's ever going to get, which is about 50% use from what it was. One of the reasons I have been going to single shots, they're easier for me to use then some of the other guns, stylish too.
