Default I Did It, Glock!

A few days ago I bought a 17 in 9mm. I’m not a fan of these, being a revolver guy. This is only the 2nd one I’ve had, sold a 36 a few years ago. I shot it Friday and it works fine and shot to center after a slight adjustment to the rear sight. The trigger is kinda hard on the finger after a couple boxes, not so with my M&P. Not pretty, but it does what it was intended for. Heck, I might even keep it!

Not a Glock collector, but I always have two or three.

Blasphemy! Heretic! Burn the heathen!

Actually, if the grip fit my hand better, I'd probably have a glockity Glock myself.

Default Glock 9mm

I'm just a little curious: what is the distance you usually place your target? The PA Game land range where I go, for handguns one range is 15 yds., the other 25. I usually use the 25 with a rest for smaller semi's and two-handed no rest with the wheel guns. If I can get within a foot of the center I consider mission accomplished, unless I'm shooting my dad's old K22 Masterpiece, which is simple to shoot (meaning no kick) so I better be right in the middle! Something about the semi's I just can't get any better at 25 yds., all are 9mm. I'm obviously not a pro, but the body of most bad guys are bigger than how I'm shooting. Free-handed I still hit paper.

@ jeffrefrig, I typically shoot one-handed at 25 & 50 yards, because I tend to shoot NRA 2700 matches (revolver and semi).

General reply: Personally, I am not a fan of the Glock, but I am contemplating getting a G17 Gen 5 for when I work as a range officer at my club's GSSF matches. Unlike earlier Glocks, the Gen 5 fits my hand better. It would be a range toy, I still could not bring myself to carry one.

I have had probably 5 Glocks over the past five years, ranging from .380-9mm-.45acp. I think everyone should own a Glock (or at least try one out) and just appreciate for what it is. To me it is a tool that under just about any circumstance can either get me home to my family or protect my family. They will never invoke the feeling of my wheel guns, and never shoot as nice as my Dan Wesson 1911. When push comes to shove though my Glock 17 will handle whatever comes my way. Other than that: they are ugly, the trigger sucks, sights are just okay, the ergonomics don't fit most people, the texture of the grip is terrible but these are all things you can adjust or live with when it comes to $500 firearm that gets it done.

I always have at least one Glock. My current one is a gen.4 Glock 19. A friend of mine who is a Glock Armorer put in a "ghost trigger" do hickey. It greatly improved the weight and pull of the stock trigger. The parts are cheap and available everywhere.

Well, I guess I have heard of people doing worse things.

Just kidding. I suppose the Glock has obtained a sort of cult status, and it’s probably well deserved. They’re indisputably good guns, but these days I think there are other plastic guns that do the same job just as well. Anyway... enjoy your new Glock!

I am a gun enthusiast. I especially love handguns and love to shoot quality revolvers with my collecting efforts mostly spent on the older Korth revolvers and fine American, Swiss and German firearms. I used to shoot competitively for a long time but have lost interest in competition, albeit not in shooting competitively. I just have my standards and expectations of what a gun should deliver in my hands. I reload, cast my own bullets, work on my own guns and shoot everything I own, from the $150 gun to the $6,000 firearm.

When it comes to self defense guns my handgun of choice is a Glock and I lived in the Third World where I had to use the gun for self defense repeatedly and successfully. I am glad to live in a friendly and safe neighborhood but still carry a Glock.

With just a little work and minimal investment Glocks can shoot excellent groups, too. Provided the operator has what it takes.

Enclosed is a photo of a G17 that my sons had given me a LWD ported barrel for and I shot it with WWB ammo. It grouped a little to the left and I compensated for that in the last shots. I have corrected the rear sights for the new barrel by now.

Glocks are WORKING guns. I have found that a Glock 26, with the right holster, make an excellent back pocket carry gun me. My Smiths, I polish 'em, admire 'em shoot 'em some and when I wrap my hand around them I just enjoy the warm fuzzy feeling they give me. You don't get any of that from a Glock. It's not pretty, doesn't particularly feel good in your hand. If someone tells you they own a Glock, you don't have to see it, you know what it looks like. I don't worry about it's cosmetic condition. But from it's reputation and all the worldwide organizations that carry them, you know that if will go bang-----multiple times----if you ever need it to. For me that's the appeal of a Glock. Congrats on getting one, enjoy what it brings to the party!

Like others I get no emotional attachment to Glocks. However my experience has been that they work and work very reliably. They have acceptable accuracy, good capacity, are lighter weight, and are reasonably priced.

Glock is a good choice. I own Glocks and I own S&W revolvers. Both are effective weapons of self-defense and I have no emotional attachment to either and don't see why I would have different feelings about one or the other since they are tools. I guess the Glocks could be said to have a higher coolness factor due to it's prominence in TV and movies, but that isn't of much concern to me. The only guns I'm sentimental at all about are those my grandfather and father left me.

I wanted to like Glocks because I think they make good guns for CCW. I even bought a couple (26 and 36) to put on my permit. Problem is the triggers are awful! I don't see how anyone can say Glock triggers are good - let alone Glock Perfection.

I started out shooting handguns 50 years ago on a 1911 and S&W model 14, so I am a bit snobbish when it comes to what a trigger should be, but really, Glock, are you kidding me. Other than that they are well designed guns but the horrible trigger is a no-go for me. Before someone suggests dropping in a trigger kit my IA doesn't allow internal modifications.

I'll stick to carrying a 1911 or Model 66.

Default I Did It, Glock!

I used to shoot off hand with both hands, but now I’m getting older, the eyes aren’t what they were. Shoot at about 20 yds from a padded bench. The trigger is hard, but I’m used to shooting my K22 or Python. I expected that!

Personally I don't care for reading about Glocks on S&W forum. If I did I would go to the Glock forum. Sorry

Title of this part of the forum is:

Firearms & Knives - Other Brands

What was your next clue that Glocks might be discussed here?

Full disclosure, I don't own a Glock or a proper 1911 type gun, but there are still plenty of other things to discuss down here.

I carry a shiny S&W Ladysmith, but I keep a model 17 Glock and a couple 30 round Glock mags for homework. In the right crowd a Glock doesn't seem so ugly.

I bought a Glock M36 a few years back, my first auto.

Never was happy it. Still jammed occasionally so I sold it to buy a nice shoulder holster for my M&P .45.

I also have a Glock M17 9mm parabellum gen 1 that's only had a few rounds put threw it that's going to go too.

I hope my S&W work better than my Glock did.

You missed the fact that this is the "other brands " sub forum where people are free to discuss whichever gun they want.

Your post is nonsensical, sorry.

I've shot Glocks and I shoot pretty well with them and they have an excellent reputation for reliabiltiy I just don't like the grip angle and am not comfortable carrying one without a thumb safety. If they could change those things I would buy one in a minute. With that being said, there is nothing that great about their reliability to me. I've had a whole bunch of defensive handguns over the years and had really good luck with about all of them. I currently have a Rock Island 1911 .45 Commander, Browning HP MkIII 9m/m, Tri-star CZ-75 clone 9m/m, Smith M28 4" .357, Ruger stainless Security Six 4" .357, Smith M10 4" .38, and a Ruger LCP 380 and all have been 100% reliable with factory ammo so I don't really see how a Glock can improve on that. I guess I've just been luckier than most.

Wait until you try the 19X or the Glock 45, your mind will be blown. Glock perfection has arrived...

I alternate between a M&P 2.0 and G19X in the night stand.... Both fantastic combat tupperware... I have 50,000 rds down range in Glocks and have much more familiarity with Glock handguns, so I like them more. The 19X/G45 are perfect in my opinion. I own both and absolutely love them. Glock made some nice upgrades on their gen 5 pistols.

I find the Glock grip angle much more like a revolver. Mine certainly points better than other autos for me, especially one-handed. The trigger on a Glock takes getting used to. I'm definitely used to mine, although mine is lighter since it's on an old 17L. It was reading the late Stephen A. Camp's articles on Glocks in general and his 17L in particular that made me jump on buying mine.

PLEASE ACCEPT MY CONDOLENCES ON YOU LOSING YOUR MIND ! ! !

I'M VERY GLAD THAT YOU DID NOT POST ANY PICS OF IT. MY VISION IS COMPROMISED ENOUGH AS IT IS......

(JUST KIDDING---GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW GLOCK.)
