IMHO it's to break auto glass and the serrated blade is to cut seat belts.

Car window glass breaker. If it is well designed it should take out side and back windows. Windshields require more than a light weight hand tool.

What they said. Take that and hit a tempered glass pane and it will shatter ( the point takes all the force of the impact and puts it..well...right at the point ! ). Windshields have a layer of thin plastic material between 2 sheets of glass. Helps to keep the glass from flying in peoples faces in the event of a crash.

Never broken one but I've read you should hit the window near the bottom rather than the center

Seems like a friend told me that too about busting out a car window.

I have this one too. Looks like someone butchered the end of the blade.

Speaking from experience, you want to make the break at a corner if possible. The glass flexes too much if you try and break it in the middle. Before these rescue tools became common, we used automatic center punches.
