Growing up with only two grandparents was different. Moms mother was my only grandmother and Dads father was my only grandfather( as a child always wondered why they didn't marry... to me it'd of been perfect).

Anyhow, they both owned one pistol each....pawpaws Ruger Single Six and granny's Hi-Standard nine shot sentinel. To this day pawpaws is like new and granny's is worn out.

These snuff can lids were shot with granny's pistol in the mid-nineties as a shooting contest between her and me... about 30ft.
She had me tie a string through them and hang them on her mantel...asking why she wanted our targets hung on the mantel? She replied: "I'm gonna show everyone the day I outshot Bob!"

When confiscating that pistol after her death.... I snagged those targets off the mantel. She was in her mid seventies that day we shot. I don't remember which snuff can lid was hers or mine... I'll just have to remember that she shot the best!

Cool memories!

When I was about 5 or 6 my dad took me into Grandma's closet, pulled down an old cardboard box, and opened it up. I was too young to realize at the time but it was a shiny Luger P08 that Grandpa brought back with him from WW I. Dad let me hold it and put it back on the shelf.

My dad died when I was 9. Fast forward 30 years and we are moving Grandma into a home. I was cleaning out her closet and found the box, opened it up, and....pictures. The gun had been replaced by a bunch of old photos. I realize I should have been glad to have old photos but I'm a gun guy.

I asked Grandma, what happened to that old gun Grandpa back from the war? She said, "Oh, that old thing? It scared me to death so I threw it in the trash years ago."

Great memories.I just had a granny,but she lived on the other side of the pond so I only saw her three times.Last time was in '70.She was about 75 and ma was giving me grief about longish hair.Granny stepped in and gave her what for! I still laugh about that :-)

Granny would have me strip down to underwear and sit in front of her recliner....: either for treatment of sunburn or a haircut...

She always promised my aft divorce ponytail would grow faster if she regularly trimmed the dead ends ....did I mention she could shoot too?

I have my grand dads colt cobra.

Grandma's "purse gun" that's what my Mom told me when she passed it on to me, sadly I don't know more about it.
I shoot it once in a while, .25 cal., it is tiny but shoots fine.

I don't think granny's gun is worn out. Its perfect.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I believe your Grandma's purse gun is a CZ-45:

I am very impressed with the quality of CZ pistols, and have a few examples in my gun safe.

LOL Got to ask............... Granny did snuff?????

LOL!! One of mine did. One day when a wasp stung me, she reached in her mouth and slid out some of the Garrett Sweet Snuff she had in there and daubed it on that wasp sting. Actually seemed to help! My mother found out she did that and was mortified! And she was also put off when I told her it helped more than anything she had ever put on a wasp sting!

Nah, granny smoked L&M non-filtered.... the snuff can lids were mine.

Great Grandmama Ange dipped red rooster(?) brand snuff. She cleaned her teeth with either a sweet gum/black gum homemade tooth brush....she never owned a store bought toothbrush or tasted toothpaste. She lived to be 96 and still had every tooth despite never seeing a dentist. You would be surprised at the medicinal values of the sweet gum tree(I think it's the main ingredient in Tamiflu). How did the old folks know what was medicinal back in the day?

Some wonderful memories here. By the way, my great grandfather smoked a corn cob pipe, great grandma dipped a little snuff, both died in their 90s. My dad smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day, he died one week short of 95. Not saying anyone should take up the snipes, I don't, just saying.

My grandmother moved in with us in NH for a couple years after she lost her farm in CT until she could get elderly housing in MA. My brother being a bit inquisitive discovered Grammy's revolver hidden in a drawer. We would look at it every once in a while when no one was around. It was a Harrington & Richardson 6 shot .32 S&W revolver. After I was 16 I purchased a box of ammo for it and we tried it out. We were not impressed with the power or accuracy. One round fired at an angle into the ground bounced off a rock and went up into a tree and bounced off a limb and dropped harmlessly onto my shoe. After I came back from my 3 years in the U S Army my mother gave me her mother's revolver to get it out of the house. By that time Grammy was gone to her reward.

Gun Safety is no accident.

No handguns from my grandparents, just long guns. I did end up with one from my dad's side, a Bay State 16 ga single shot. On mom's side they went to her brothers and my cousins have them now.

Now where my wife's family is concerned, her dad gave me his Remington 721 but all his handguns (including his dad's) ended up with his stepson. I did get another classic farmers single shot that he had left with my mother in law, an Excel 12 ga. After her mom had passed there was one handgun that had belonged to her dad and because of estate issues it was going in the auction. My wife really wanted her grandad's gun and my mother in law and I decided that she would get it no matter what it cost. As it turned out everyone else got the idea that I was not going to be outbid fairly quickly and I only paid a small premium over the then market value of the piece... it was worth it.

My wife has many memories of her grandpa using that old Colt Police Positive around the farm. Shooting various pests, squirrels, rabbits, etc., he was obviously fond of that little 32 and kept it handy. Our son, who was named after him, will receive it one day.

Looks like a CZ DUO to me. They were made by a smaller company near Prauge that was nationalized after WW2. The roll marking and logo on the grips were changed and henceforth the guns were referred to as "Z" pistols.
