just another old Winchester lever gun
A Model 88 in .308 made in 1956. this past Wednesday I was talking to my buddy up in WI(about guns of course) and the subject of guns I never see here that I saw fairly regularly out in NE and KS. Win 88s and 100s were mentioned. four hours later I walk into a shop about 20 miles from here and there on the wall is a Win 88. when I mentioned what it was the owner just handed it to me to look over. I could tell from behind the counter that it was a pre-64 by the fine checkering. he had just traded for it and didn't have it priced and I didn't ask. well, I stopped by again yesterday and he had it priced. of course being the tactful person that I am, I pointed out all the flaws and handling marks etc and we had a good laugh. then he told me what he would really take and handed me a clipboard with a 4473 on it. I didn't want to hurt his feelings so I filled it out and reached for my wallet. this is the only 88 or 100 I have seen at a show or in a shop in the 19 1/2 years I have been back here in TN. it also has a period correct sling and Leupold 4 X 32 scope that is bright and clear. enjoy. lee

Nice rifle Lee. I have been looking around for his big brother in .358 Win. for a while now. They tend to be a bit salty.

I remember liking the way the M100 (semiauto) and the M88 looked when they first came out. Turned out I liked the Browning BAR more.

Being a old school Lefty,
The 88 was on my list.
So when I found a 308 for sale out in Sacramento, I bought it.
It was my first center fire rifle.
I hunted with it for several years in several states.
Looking back, the only drawback would be a less than great trigger pull.
