Default Lets See Your Favorite Non Smith&Wesson Revolvers

Smith&Wesson handguns have always been, and always will be my favorite guns to collect. As I've been downsizing my collection, I've decided to keep just these three non Smith&Wesson revolvers till the end. Downsizing has been hard, but these three revolvers are my favorite. Top to bottom, A 1960 2nd Gen Colt SAA 7 1/2" 45 Colt, A 1957 Ruger 44 Magnum 6 1/2" Flattop (with Ruger Factory Stag Grips), and finally a 1993 Colt 357 Stainless Steel 6" Python. All 3 of these guns are in excellent condition and have their original boxes and paperwork (not shown). Since these are my favorite, lets see your favorite non Smith&Wesson Revolvers.

Although I'm a Smith & Wesson guy through and through, I do cherish my birth year Colt Detective Special...

Most of my collection are Rugers. But my Interarms era Rossi M720 44 SPL is one of my favorite guns. 3" bbl that is a nice balance between 20 oz lightweight Charter Bulldogs, 36 oz Ruger GP100 44 SPL and too expensive for my current budget S&W 44 Specials.

My favorite non S&W revolver is My Linebaugh Custom Sixguns .475 Linebaugh. I shoot it often with 385gr cast LBT traveling about 900FPS out of the 5.5 inch barrel. It is responsible for two elk and several hogs.

My only non S&W revolvers are these two Chapuis made 6" Manurhins, a .357 MR 73 Sport and a MR 32 Match.

The .32 is an awesome target revolver.

There are many fine revolvers in my safe, it is difficult to pick a single favorite

Obviously many Colt Pythons are going to be mentioned. My 2 1/2" Ultimate stainless Python had the Walt Sherman roller bearing action and it amazing to shoot double action

The Dan Wessons are fantastically acurate revovlers. I like them in both 357 SuperMag and 41 Magnum.

Then there is the one that Maxwell Smart inspired

I do have this amazing Colt that Bob Munden built for me many years ago

It is hard for me to believe, but Colt, Dan Wesson and Smith & Wesson make up 90%+ of the revolvers that I own

There are several Taurus snubbies and one of the USFA 12-22s, a Fredom Arms 454, but not much else comes to mind.

My Ruger SS, I've had since the mid 80's. Always been my goto gun.

For a long time, these were my only revolvers.

I like the Colt D-frames almost as much as the S&W J-frames.

Same with the Colt E-frames and the S&W K-frames.

Oh, and I like British .38 topbreaks. Not necessarily for their beauty, though

Actually, I have a brace of revolvers. Used these shooters at Cowboy Action Shooting matches.

Uberti Open Tops (Navy) in 45 Colt

Thanks for looking at my brace of main match cowboy revolvers.

God bless,

I like my 4" Ruger SP101 357 Magnum. The grips are JaruwanP's and a Sourdough pancake holster.
It came new with the rubber/wood insert grips but these fill my large hand much more to my liking.

Default Colt MKIII Border Patrol

This is the only non S&W revolver I own. It was purchased new in 1972 by my Father. This and a Colt Woodsman Match Target are what got me interested in the shooting sports. Still have and shoot both.

I've owned a bunch of them over the years, but the only non Smith & Wesson I have now is a Charter Arms 44 Bulldog.

There is a Ruger 50 anniversary Single-Six here, but it's my wife's.

I'm FAR too busy sniffing corks, to admit to owning any of these mutt-guns. (J/K)

I can't really pick a single favorite Smith revolver, much less a favorite non-Smith revolver.

You'd have better luck asking me to pick a favorite motorcycle (yeah, right) or my favorite child (nope).

Those would be the 1979 Ruger Security Six and the 1984 vintage Ruger RH both in 357. Pics:

YOU HAVE AN AWESOME COLLECTION OF FIREARMS. I AM ALSO A HUGE FAN OF COLT DA REVOLVERS. I WILL POST A COUPLE OF PYTHONS, LATER ON ON THIS THREAD.....

IMHO, TAURUS FIREARMS DO NOT DESERVE TO EXIT IN THE RAREFIED AIR OF YOUR GUN SAFE....

NO DISS TO YOU INTENDED. I ONCE SUNK TO AN ALL-TIME LOW OF OWNING 3---LURED IN BY THEIR LOW PRICE, AND VIUAL APPEAL. I WAS FORTUNATE TO SELL THEM, FOR LESS THAN 1/2 OF WHAT I PAID FOR THEM. RATHER THAN BEING ANGRY---I WAS ELATED AT BEING RID OF THEM......

Here are my non-smiths.
Colt Trooper .357
Colt Commando .38
Colt Lawman MKiii .357
Colt Frontier Scout .22 Duotone
Colt...?!? Was sold to me as an Officers Model Match but is somewhat of a mystery! Has a heavy bull barrel (with no markings), bluing matches throughout, has adjustable sights and an amazing trigger. I would have sold this frankengun but it is the best shooting .22 revolver I have ever picked up hands down. Wish I knew more about it!

Taurus Judge Magnum.

I bought this because my brother owned a Judge which upon handling made me want one, plus my brother had some boxes of Federal Premium .410 Handgun 000 Buck 3" shells he had purchased by mistake which wouldn't fit his standard Judge, so I purchased the "Magnum" version with a longer cylinder and took the ammo off his hands.

It's extremely fun to shoot, and far more accurate than many folks assert that it must be due to the shallow rifling/freebore with .45 Long Colt.

FOR DECADES BEFORE I OWNED MY FIRST S&W, I OWNED AND SHOT COLT DA REVOLVERS, EXCLUSIVELY. BELOW ARE 2 OF MY FAVES.....

THE 8" WAS PURCHASED NEW, WHEN SAMPLES WERE BEING SENT OUT TO GUN WRITERS. AN FFL THAT I KNEW, HAD AN IN AT COLT. HE PROCURED 2 OF THEM---ONE FOR ME, AND ONE FOR HIMSELF. THEY WEREN'T COMMONLY AVAILABLE UNTIL MANY MONTHS LATER.....

THE 4" STAINLESS REVOLVER IS A PYTHON ELITE---THE VERY LAST ITERATION OF THE PYTHONS. THEY WERE MANUFACTURED IN THE COLT CUSTOM SHOP. MINE WAS ORDERED WITH THE "ULTIMATE BRIGHT POLISH" FINISH AND THE "SERVICE TUNED ACTION" WHICH LIGHTENS THE TRIGGER PULL, BUT GUARANTEES RELIABLE IGNITION WITH ANY BRAND OF FACTORY AMMO.....

I only own 4 non-S&W revolvers, so picking a favorite is pretty easy.

Jovino Customs, stainless steel Terminator 44 magnum.

EDIT: I forgot a couple. I guess I actually own 6 that aren't S&W.

A couple years ago I would have had to sit this thread out. However, I'm not ashamed of my Colt collection and I'm really fond of my 4 inch Colt Diamondback in 22lr. Its not a safe queen as it does get carried and shot in the field from time to time.

The Colt Magnum Carry also gets a nod for one of the best non Smith revolvers ever made, mine sports a set of Herretts when its not wearing the factory Hogues.

My favorite non S&W is a Colt Shooting Master in 357 caliber with
King rib and Roper grips. The grips are large and I have trouble shooting it double action but shooting it single action with 38 special wad cutters is a dream. The gun is heavy and absorbs recoil so easy to keep on target.

Default Lets See Your Favorite Non Smith&Wesson Revolvers

That’s like asking which is your favorite child........pythons, troopers, Lawman, scouts, new cobra, SAA’s, old .41 Thunderer, or the old war horse 1917. I don’t have a revolver that isn’t a Smith or a Colt.

Oh wait I do have a lone Ruger.

I like a lot of you think there is a place for a Single Action Army. Mine I believe was one of the frames sold to Great Western when Colt had made the short term decision not to reintroduce the S A A. This Great Western Sheriff model is neat to carry and shoot. Colt rethought its position and reintroduced the Colt S A A in 1955. My Colt revolver is A Single Action Scout from the early 1970s.

My favorite non-Smith has the be the Colt Police Positive Special that was my bedside gun for 20 years. It came with these rubber grips and all the holster wear. I'd like to find some wood grips, but I looked into it a while back and since this gun is from the 50s I guess the grip sizes changed at some point. I need to research it further.

Lets See Your Favorite Non Smith&Wesson Revolvers-colt-pps-jpg

A close second is my Ruger GP100 Wiley Clapp. I have since gotten the compact grips for it, and even though I rarely shoot or carry it, I love it. Since Ruger has apparently opened up a custom shop, I might send this to them for conversion to a 7 shot cylinder. Maybe.

Lets See Your Favorite Non Smith&Wesson Revolvers-ruger-wc-gp100-2-jpg

Under the file of "innovations S&W should have made" is the Taurus 445, which is a L frame cylinder in a K frame with a J frame sized grip. That means a pocketable 5 shot aluminum frame 21oz 44 SPL. This one is in my pocket all day every day, and here it is next to the S&W 637 it replaced.

Lets See Your Favorite Non Smith&Wesson Revolvers-taurus-445-2-jpg

Finally, the hideous monster that makes 357 MAG shoot like 38 SPL, the Chiappa Rhino. FWIW, it's like a handsome woman that photographs poorly - it's no beauty queen, but in real life it's not quite so ugly. I will almost certainly be buying a 4" or 5" as well.

Many years ago, I owned a 6" nickle Colt Python .357, but had to sell it when I fell on hard times. I recently picked up this Monson, Mass. Dan Wesson 6" stainless 715 .357 and believe it to be just as accurate as the Python. It is by far my favorite revolver period.

My favorite non-S&W is the Colt's Agent, shown on the left below
with Craig Spegel extended boots.

I also like the Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum. 2nd
from left.

I kept the vintage Charter Undercover for special purpose, but sold the
newer one.

Yeah, and believe it or not when I found it two years ago there were actually people around here who told me I shouldn't buy it for $350.
They said ALL Spanish guns are junk.
I read up on Astra and learned about Jovino and bought it anyway.
Glad I did.
