Building a Tennessee Rifle
I started on a new project. This one is a Tennessee rifle. It is being built from a plank and using plans from Track of the Wolf. Just for for fun, I am making a series of videos of building it. I am explaining what I am doing every step along the way. Hopefully it will be helpful to those of you who are new to this or thinking about giving it a try. I am not a gun building expert so don't think of this as the right way or the best way to do things. It is just me building a gun and talking too much. I don't have any schedule on when the videos will be coming out. The gun is not finished yet so I will post new videos to You Tube as I get them done. I am anxious for hear any comments that you might have.
Here is Part 1. Showing all the parts, explaining what they and how they go together, and getting started.

Love this! Kudo's to you for taking on such a daunting task.
I have built several black powder guns but all from kits. I myself just don't have the skills or patience to do it 'from scratch".
FWIW, here is a Kit gun I put together on retirement last year. The hardest part of this project was adding figure and color to the plain as a Popsicle stick beach stock.

Great job on that Crockett, Dave. I have the same kit rifle and wish that I had been able to give some figure to my stock.

Why thank you sir! Haven't shot a squirrel with it (yet) but it really is a sweet little rifle.
FWIW, The finish on mine is my first experiment with using brown leather die applied with a randomly cut ( ragged edged) paint brush. ( A process I found reference too on the net.)
It was feathered on springily after stain and between the first 6 coats of Truoil/Linseed oil mix. ( I think I did 13 coats total if memory serves. The staggering between coats is what gives the finish it's depth. The random cut brush allowed me to get some pretty realistic tiger striping , figure and color variation. I'm sure it isn't as nice as the quality wood the OP (Bill) will end up with but considering what it was, I'm very happy with it. I may strip another rifle and refinish it the same way.
Here is a close up of the rifle above to give a better idea of the final results.

You’ll need a smart hunting pouch and powder horn to go with it.
