Default 870 Wingmaster ONG Trade In

Just got an email from SOS with these listed for $239.99 free shipping. Couldn't pass up on it.

Trade in from the Ohio National Guard. They have the standard wood stock for $10 less. Kinda rough looking, but they said they function perfectly.

I know a few people that would pay that for just the factory folding stock for tactiCOOL reasons.

Pics from their web site.

Man that is a COOL shotgun. I’d buy one in an instant if I were stateside.

870s can be ROUGH looking and just plain hagggard, but still function with perfectivity!!

I picked up a heat shield on EBAY. When I now shoot the shotgun I can put my thumb over the shield which helps hold the barrel down without burning mu thumb. Works great and can shoot anything trouble, well maybe a little with 00 buck. And I think that's a heck of a price.

I think I'd opt for the wooden stock version, although the stocks probably need refinishing.

They look rough, the folders sold out in a couple hours. The full stock version is still available thou.

Hope the link is S&W allowed.

They are already sold out of wood stocks, too.

I wonder what the O.N.G replaced them with, and what they thought was a better weapon than an 870 Wingmaster?

Perhaps the M26 shotgun. I’ve seen some gate guards at an undisclosed CONUS base carrying them in the standalone configuration. Personally I’d MUCH prefer an 870 or 500 for the job, which they may of course have purchased to replace these tired Wingmasters (even if they are mechanically solid).

Or, they could just be using their M4s and see no need for the shotguns anymore...

I got one of the wood stocks. I only noticed the folder after I ordered a full stock, and the folders sold out before I could call to change the order. The folders suck to shoot, but they sell for decent money and I'd absolutely pay the extra $10 to sell the stock off to cover half of the gun.

Hell, I'd keep it around. I've got a bunch of shotguns and those folding stocks are neat.

edit:

I guess I'm gravitating lately towards shotguns I can mount a bayonet to. Hopefully I'll find a cheap M7 bayonet sometime soon to actually make use of that.

Bought this one around 30 years ago at a gun show. Probably paid about $10 for it.

Those folding stocks are somewhat scarce and bring a decent dime when sold (no matter how terrible for practical use) but the money with these guns is the authentic factory bayo lug clamp and extended mag tube, a much scarcer assembly easily selling in the past, when found, for $200+.

These shotguns may have been the best deal of 2018 so far. I got one of the standard stock versions.

Picked up mine today. No way it was ever issued, no rust or blue damage anywhere. Except a couple spots on top of the barrel where the stock sits when folded.

One major problem is the locking detent parts for the stock are missing. If I can't find one, I have a machinist friend that could probably make one.

The parts I'm missing.

I don't like folding stocks, but knew it would be worth a lot more if I ever sold it.

I bought what was listed as a military surplus 870 wood stock last night off ebay before I knew my folder was missing the latch. Couldn't beat it for $26 with the mounting screw and recoil pad.

I stripped it down, cleaned it up and put a good coat of CLP on everything. I'll strip and refinish the forend in dark walnut the same as I'll do with the stock when I get it next week.

Insides of it is shows zero wear.

I carried a Rem 870 with that stock everyday for many years, after they quit putting full bench seats in our cruisers. They were absolutely miserable to shoot with and made you pay dearly for poor technique. If you don't keep your head down and welded to the top of that stock, it can & will come up and cut or bruise your cheek brutally. I saw it happen on many occasions during qualifications. Also after years of use, our stocks started self destructing at the hinge joint, the snap rings would wear thin and finally fracture. I used to keep extra parts in my locker at the post so I could put them back together. Loved and trusted my life to the 870 but that stock is a medieval torture device.

Carried the Remington 870 shotguns for most of my 24 years as a cop, usually with the standard butt stock, but one with the factory folding stock. Ditto all the other comments about shooting that folding stock with buckshot or slug loads! Absolutely brutal.

Having said that, I suspect that the factory folding stock would bring every penny you paid for that shotgun, if you decide to sell it. Probably wouldn't be very hard to find someone who will pay you all your cash and send you his standard walnut butt stock to boot.

You caught a good deal there!

Sweet Deal both of mine don’t look like they’ve ever been issued. Carried one once about 25 years ago working plain clothes. Recoil is brutal but the folding stock biggest drawback is it will pinch thumps and fingers unmercifully.

Here's mine: Looks better than it did sitting in my FFLs basement, though there is a small crack in the stock. I've seen that happen on a lot of posurp guns, if it spreads I'll fix it. CU barrel code, rack number 34.

When I found out the button that locks the folding stock in place was missing on mine, I called them and asked if they maybe had some loose parts in the bottom of the shipping crate. Girl I talked to said no.

I went ahead and emailed them with a pic of the parts I was missing, and asked the same. Next morning I had a reply saying they had everything except the C clip, and had already sent them out to me. I was most happy! Killer customer service. Picked up a few C clips at ACE.

The end caps/bayonet lugs alone are probably worth more than what they sold for. I have been looking for one for my '71 Wingmaster for several years. If it wouldn't fit on my 18" barrel, I'd buy a 20" one and a new and longer +3 mag tube extension just so I could install it. So steamed I missed out on these.

Put a case of clays worth of 7.5 shot through it and a couple boxes of buckshot. So much fun.

Nice!!!

Those shotguns look funny with the short bayonets. I'll bet they'd look good with a longer bayonet like the M7L or the KCB77, or OKC3S or even an M9.

Nice!!!

Those shotguns look funny with the short bayonets. I'll bet they'd look good with a longer bayonet like the M7L or the KCB77, or OKC3S or even an M9.
I actually just received my OKC3S...and the ring does not fit on the adapter. It fits on my AR fine as one would expect, but be warned, you might wind up having to file these out. I'm not willing to do that so I'm going to toss mine up and just buy the M7 as I should've in the first place.

These WooD make perfect zombie guns. M7 would be easier to pull out of skulls.
