German dagger with swastika
Hello,
I have inherited a dagger but not sure if its a knockoff. It is etched "Solingen Germany", a symbol to the left of that I can't make out and the letters "PIC" under the symbol. The swastika is on the handle within a red and white diamond shape. It is a 5 or 6 inch blade. Condition is at least 95% sn 13160.
Sound familiar to anybody or thoughts on value?
Thanks for any feedback or questions.

You need to find a true collector to authenticate it for you. It is my understanding that they were a common item to counterfeit after the war. The fakes were very good and even had the correct markings.
Fakes run in the $hundreds while originals can be in the $thousands.

Yes, you're describing a Hitler Youth dagger. Please post photos of the dagger and sheath if you have it. A close up of the diamond would be nice. Most of the fakes are pretty easy to identify. It shouldn't have a serial number though. The "Germany" is normally a red flag as well.

Yeah could be a knock-off with the word Germany being a red flag as stated above. As a kid I bought a post war repro without the diamond and swastika on the handle. Buyer beware as Third Reich items going for big money often hence so many forgeries.

That's my thinking also. I imagine Deutschland would be the "correct" marking not the Anglo, Germany. But that is my un-educated guess.

Thanks guys. I'm not able to post a pic but between your comments and a couple, in depth youtube vids its definately a fake.
The scabbard has a lip at the opening, and the vids repeated that"Germany" should never appear. There are no mottos or any other marking on the blade.
I guess the $5.95 price tag I scrapped off was fair when dad bought it in 82. Still looks neat though.

I doubt if items meant for domestic sale within Germany bear a country marking.
Maybe famous binocular brands like Leica and Zeiss use the country name for all goods, as so many of them are sold abroad and they may just want to make them with one marking.

The knockoffs were advertised in countless magazines in the 1950's and, as I recall, early 1960's. Handles were pot metal of some sort, and they didn't look all that authentic up close. Pretty crude, and almost worth the few bucks they cost.

I'd get rid of it, seriously! I now they're collector's items, but "IF" you ever have the police come in for any reason or God forbid get arrested for some minor BS, you'd be that Neo-Nazi dude with several thousand's of rounds of ammo on the national news? They won't be viewed as collectables in display cabinets by the media. I actually came across a real one in an antique store and gave it a pass for this reason, crazy world we live in now. That's just me, you can do what ever you see fit. Happy New Year.

The copies most likely outnumber the originals.
Have never wanted a dagger,
But the Paratrooper Gravity Knife -
Have thought seriously about one of those.

At one time not so long ago, at least a dozen of the fake youth daggers could be found for sale at any random gun show. And other fake Nazi dagger knockoffs also - there were many designs. For the most part they were originally intended to be ceremonial.
