Default The Remington Devil Made Me Do It

Thought I was not looking for any new firearm acquisitions
Was especially not looking for another pump shotgun

These are the two that were already in the fold:

Plain barrel, checkered grip and pump handle, from 1931:

Plain barrel, plain grip, ringed pump handle, from 1927:

Then. out of the blue, a ribbed Remington 17 showed up
Ribbed Variation, just acquired (Barrel Code RW = Nov. 1928)

One might be puzzled at the attraction of a Remington 17. Note, the Remington 17 was designed by John Browning, only came in 20 gauge, and is considered by many to be one of the finest pump shotguns ever made.
Here is the checkered version (from the first picture above) holding its own against a Winchester 21:

I think I have opened a thread in shotgun heaven. With a Model 21 to boot!

Nice Model 17's
The Solid Rib on those is integral/one piece with the bbl. All made from one piece of steel, not a separate rib soldered onto the bbl.

That was the way Remington made all of their solid rib and Vent rib shotgun bbls for their semiautos and pumps right up through till the 11-48 autoloader and the slighty later 870 Wingmaster pump came about.

All those solid rib and vent rib Model 10, 29 and 31 pumps and Model 11 auto loaders have those one piece bbls as well as the M17.
Quite a 'piece of work' in it's day for a production line repeating shotgun.

Very nice for sure. Understand all milled parts on those early guns. Love to hear the action pumped on those guns. Great pics!

Those are very nice, I just picked one up about a month ago but not near the condition of these. It's been used and you can tell it but it is just as tight as the day it was built. As far as codes go this one has what looks like LP on the barrel. Can you tell me what year it was built?
