Default He wants his money back

On January 3 I bought a Glock 43 from a friend who was dying to own a Sig P365. Later that afternoon I bought a Polish P64 and a S&W 908s from my doctor's receptionist. The 908s had a deep groove scratched in the left side of the slide and a corresponding groove about 2" above that in the JIT slide holster. I sold that to a LEO aquaintance for the same price I gave for it. His partner wanted the P64, which I intended to keep. After much discussion, he talked me out of it.

He called me a while ago wanting a refund. It seems his department will not approve it for CC and he can buy a S&W Shield for just a bit more money. I asked if he still had the three boxes of CorBon ammo at $23.99 each that went with the gun, he said no. I offered him $75.00 less than he paid me, to compensate for the ammo, and he flipped out. I was cheating him.

I withdrew my offer and wished him luck with his wheeling and dealing.

His lack of research regarding approved carry guns is not your problem, unless you stated the sale came with a money-back guarantee. However, I would drive very carefully in his jurisdiction.

Agreed. When doing private sales I always want a BOS and I know a lot of people here disagree with me, but I don't care. It's my proof of sale (your proof of purchase) and it's always sold as it, no warranty, nothing implied, nothing promised.

Your offer was fair IMO, so don't feel bad about it.

I agree expending three boxes of expensive ammo only to later discover the weapon is unacceptable for intended use is his problem; not yours.

If he mentions it again I'd have a talk with his supervisor after telling him I was done discussing the matter.

I had a micro cassette recorder that fit a uniform breast pocket just fine and I could turn it on only by having to pinch my pocket as if in straightening. It really helped my report writing and testimony by allowing me to quote individuals rather than paraphrase them from recollection.

Buy a dash (or rearview mirror) cam with audio you can swivel to cover the driver's window just in case. Practice this maneuver.

I'd have told him the ammo was part of the package he bought (not just a gift) so if he wanted to go buy 3 boxes of the CorBon ammo to replace the boxes he shot, and bring the WHOLE PACKAGE back I'd give him a complete refund. Other wise, he could deduct the cost of the ammo from his refund. Or go pound sand.

I dont do Refunds on ANY firearm sale Period. What if he went out the next day and shoots someone, the police find a case that matches your weapon sometime in the future.... or they run home made ammo through it and it stresses it...NA.... he can get PO all he wants as above Go pound sand... and never deal with him again...Freaking looser.

Actually, the day he bought the P64 I offered him the Glock 43 but before I got the case opened he informed me "that as a LEO I can buy directly from Glock, Inc. for pennies on the dollar compared to civilian pukes like you."

Well, Glocks are sold through distributors, not out of the front door at 6000 Highlands Pkwy., Smyrna, GA. Blue Label price on a Glock 43 is around $358.00+ tax brings it to about $380.00. "Civilian pukes" pay about $420.00 or more plus tax. You get the same gun, two mags and standard sights.

Excuse me, but are you exaggerating a little or did he actually and seriously call you a “civilian puke” prior to buying that other gun he wants to return, or did he say that during the conversation when saying you’re ripping him off? Either way, it’s nice to know you handled it so perfectly.

The guy who brought him over called him on that remark immediately; I just let it go. But no exaggeration, that was his wording.

On a lighter note, he asked the other guy if he had ever run a check on me to make sure I was legit.

Maybe next time he’ll do his due diligence. I’m fortunate enough to have had all positive dealings in my history of buying/trading/selling and pride myself on being honest and fair dealing, but in this case, I’d tell him to pound sand.

Put him in your rear view and keep him there.

You kept that jewel, right?

The only free CorBon I have left is two boxes of .45 GAP; I got it with a Glock 38 a few months ago.

That P64 was $225.00, he should be able to get most, if not all of his money back. It had two spare mags with it as well.

I'm sorry, but this smacks of the entitlement mentality some people have. "Why, I'm a (fill in the blank), you should subsidize me"

I sold a Luger to a buddy, something that had sentimental value, but he wanted it. Anyway, he had replaced the springs with Wolf Springs, to get it shooting well. Deal was he'd sell it back to me if he wanted to get rid of it.

Well, he did, and I said, OK, how much, as I knew he had put some money into it.

He said, Ok, let me figure it out, springs were $40.00, plus $500.00 for the gun, he says, "Ok, I need, $650.00 for the gun". I'm like, man your math is off, he said he had to charge me for his labor.

Oh man. Even as a former LEO, that remark would have moved him immediately to the top of my "pay no mind" list.

You went above and beyond, my friend. Pay him no mind.

I'd give him all his money back, and take the gun back.

You do NOT want a lawman holding a grudge against you. Period. It's not worth a few Andrew Jacksons to square up here.

I hate dealing with people, some people,

I sold firewood, it’s stacked and measured in the truck. On my second load the buyer goes where’s the rest of the cord? I caught him stacking it in his basement. Then say it’s not a full cord. He had the gall to call me for more firewood the next fall I said I was sold out.

I've bought and sold a few guns over the years, and always ask for a receipt, and always give one. I want the serial number shown on any document relating to a firearm. If anything happened, or happens, with it, I want my butt covered...

Three boxes of Cor-Bon? Yeah. Stand your ground.

These men don't work anywhere around here, and I don't believe he is vindictive, just a bit odd and indecisive.

The comment on the firewood made me recall a few years ago when someone delivered a load of firewood to our mountain house. We have a gas log fireplace, no use for wood. There was an invoice stuck in the door, so I called the company and informed them of the misdelivery, then noted it on the neighborhood website. The company offered the real buyer of the wood a discount to move it himself, which he then asked to borrow my utility trailer to move. I declined. Somebody came and got the wood before the week was out, but it was not him.

Ex-buddy, right?

You should correct him by pointing out that LEOs are civilians too. Civilians are to be distinguished from military.

While I tend to agree, most dictionaries do not.

Webster:

civilian noun
ci·vil·ian | \ sə-ˈvil-yən also -ˈvi-yən\
Definition of civilian (Entry 1 of 2)

2a : one not on active duty in the armed services or not on a police or firefighting force

Cambridge:

civilian
noun [ C ] US /səˈvɪl·jən/
civilian noun [ C ] (ORDINARY PERSON)

politics & government a person who is not a member of the police, the armed forces, or a fire department:

Oxford:

civilian
NOUN
1A person not in the armed services or the police force.

My former agency clearly listed approved weapons for back up & off duty carry in our general orders. This is not a mystery and he should have done his homework ahead of time.

“This is not a mystery and he should have done his homework ahead of time”

The other guy reminded him that he couldn’t carry the thing. Had he not flipped out, and actually looked at the Glock before he pitched his fit, I think he would of been pleased with it.

The first step is to have him replace every round he burnt up with the exact same ammo. Then tell him you'll be willing to bargain--at a discount for restocking.

As soon as he made the "civilian pukes" comment the whole deal would have ended for me. I agree with an earlier post that that comment wreaks of an entitlement complex. No way would I even deal with him.

Default He could have offered....

....to throw in a couple boxes of Magtech ammo.

It's not like he didn't buy a nice gun even if he doesn't get to use it on duty. Sounds like his head is off duty.

Technically correct, but it’s been used in that context by so many for so long it’s become a colloquial term

OP, you’re too kind. Glad that jerk didn’t work for me.

I too might have let the civilian puke comment slide, but I would have stopped immediately after the "did you run a check on him" comment. That would tell me that this guy's a ****** that likes to use his badge to mess with people. Thanks but no thanks.
