Default Old School Customer Service.....

I, like many others on this forum, have many different brands of firearms. When something doesn’t go our way, we typically tell everyone how poor we felt we were treated. Poor customer service can be perceived as common with some manufacturers.

However, I need to share a different story....

A few months ago, I purchased a Sig P230 SL on gunbroker. It was only about $300 bucks, so I thought I would take my chances. When I received it, I simply pulled back the slide and the ejector and several other parts fell out. At that point, I figured I would just send it to Sig Sauer and have them fix it and re-finish the slide. I figured that I would probably spend another $200-$250 to put it back in working order.

I shipped it to Sig on a Wednesday. I hadn’t heard anything so I called them on Monday. I asked the customer service person about the status and he said “It’s all set, we sent it back to you already.” I responded by saying “you never called me to give me a quote. How much is this going to cost?” He responded, “There won’t be any charge. We like to see some of these older guns come back to us. Enjoy your gun!”

When I received it back, it looked brand new (completely refinished) and functioned perfectly. This all happened within one week! This is the first time I ever sent anything to Sig Sauer. I have to share the story because it reminds me of the old days. This hasn’t happened to me very often but I will remember it for a long time.

That is impressive and one reason why I still like sig. I bought their 522 (tactical .22 rifle) years ago and somehow managed to lose a spring when disassembling their grip/trigger. I called them told them how I basically jacked up my new rifle. They sent me the missing spring and a second one just in case all for free with expedited shipping. The guy on the phone was understanding and very helpful.

Great story, thanks for sharing the good news. Your photo reminded me how much I love the design of the P230. One of the sexiest pistols ever.

I've only had to use Sig Sauer customer service once, for an issue I created, and I could not have been more satisfied . . .

I recently had a great experience with the customer service of Aero Precision. They make quality AR type rifles and parts. FedEx (eye roll) stated they delivered a package that never showed up. I contacted them, and in a reasonable amount of time, they reshipped the entire order. It was almost $250 worth of AR parts. They were awesome. FedEx, not so much.

If you are considering a higher end AR, may I suggest you take a look at Aero Precision's offerings.

Thanks for sharing your good experience. That pistol looks great. Awesome score for $300.... bet it didn't feel like it though when you got it and it fell apart. I would have been SERIOUSLY chapped about that. Glad it worked out for you.

Default A little more to the story...

I should have added to my original post.....

The last thing I said to the customer service person was “Thank you so much! This is my first Sig Sauer I’ve ever owned but now I know it won’t be my last.” He replied..... “We appreciate your business.”

Glad to hear of it and a fantastic pistol as well! I've used their services a few times and have been more than 100% satisfied every time. Their products cost a bit more than most, but are well worth it.

I purchased my first Sig 4 months ago (P365 - 3rd. gen.) and have had zero issues, but did call them to get a few questions I had answered as well as buying a few accessories. They were helpful, polite and seemed to be knowledgable about their products.

SIG handled my P320 trigger upgrade extremely well. Turnaround was less than three weeks, impressive considering the volume of work they were doing at the time. And my trigger was vastly improved, with a right-now takeup, a short reset, no slop, grittiness, or sponginess, and a 5/16" total pull length. It was like getting an Apex DCAEK for free. No complaints here!

Thanks for posting about a positive experience. Nice to hear about things going well. I have a P220 and a P228. They both have been perfectly reliable. Never had a misfire, fail to eject or misfeed. Not a hiccup. So, I sure can't comment about Sig's customer service. Never needed it! Great to hear how good they are should I need them sometime.

I haven't needed service on either the P250 or P245 but have talked to them a few times on various questions I had. Always very friendly, courteous and knowledgeable, they really did seem to appreciate their customers. Thanks for posting this, it's always good to see something positive in the firearms industry.

You must have slipped in just at the end of parts availability. Below is my response to an email I sent the other day inquiring about service for a P230:

Thank you for contacting SIG Sauer.

Unfortunately we no longer offer retail parts for the P230/232 pistols. We no longer import anything from Germany and since we never manufactured the P230/232 here in the US we do not have any parts available for those models. There may be parts available from third party retailers like Brownell's, Top Gun Supply, Numrich, and MGW. There is also a website that specializes in harder to get parts: Home Page | EveryGunPart.com - Your One-Stop Shop for Gun Parts Kits. I am sorry to report bad news.

Kindest,

Bill Saunders
Customer Service Representative

As an owner of a 4 year-old P226, I'm glad to hear of your CS experience. Sig QC must be pretty good too. After many thousands of rounds I've not had any malfunctions of any kind.

I'll jump on the "good service from sig" bandwagon. I've used them three times in the last few years. One new pistol and two used. The CS reps were knowledgeable. After I got off the phone they e-mailed me a return shipping label within five minutes. Got the guns back in two weeks. The repairs actually fixed the pistols (not so lucky with Glocks). No charge.
