Default Question about Revolvers, Colt Single Action

This is a question for the Old Timers.

This question is regarding the tracking line around the cylinder from the cylinder stop bearing against the cylinder from use.

I know in an S&W revolver, there is spring pressure on the cylinder stop, which causes that tracking line.

Question is about a Colt SAA. I had an old timer once tell me that if there's a heavy tracking line on a Colt SAA, something is wrong with the revolver, as the cylinder stop should drop down inside the frame and not bear on the cylinder while the action is cycled.

Apologize for the wordiness.
