Dan Wesson 15-2
I have a shot at buying a 8" 15-2 Dan Wesson for what I think is a fair price.
I hate long barrels, and would probably buy it to trade or resale.
Listed as excellent condition. Are these very desirable?

You should be able to sell the 8" barrel for enough to buy a 4" or 6" and have cash remaining
I think the 8s look great

They are to me, DW runs a very close second to S&W. I have 4 of them. That being said they don’t have near a big of following as S&W.
Barrels and shrouds of various lengths do come up from time to time, you can also buy them new from CZ.
I wouldn’t pay more than $400 - $500 if you are planning to resell.

Thanks!
I didn't know all DW's had removable barrels.
They were asking 550 for it, guess I'll pass.

It pays to do a little research before asking questions or watch a YT videos !!
Cheack out EWKarms for most anything DW revolver . Want a 3" or 4" barrel that's were to go . Stock may be low but you will be notified when avalible . As it is you have a revolver capiable of some amassing shot groups . I started handgun hunting with a 8" 15-2 in '76 with dot optic in '78 I used a Buelher no drill mount and a 3moa ultra dot for the last 15 or so years . Also have a 4" 22lr version and wife has a 15-2 6" .
Mount looked like this - BUEHLER SCOPE MOUNTS DAN WESSON NO DRILL | #179771875

I would take that over any currently produced Smith & Wesson.

Check EWK arms for shorter barrel/shroud and check out Ebay usually several barrels listed.
Do a bit of research before you sell/trade it,. My Dan Wesson's are the most accurate hand guns I own. My K22 comes close, but DW's are known for accuracy. They dominated the metal silhouette matches in the 70's and 80's.
When is the last time you saw that deep blue luster on a S&W or Ruger? Only the Colt's and old S&W's come close in that kind of finish on a handgun.

All but the very, very early ones.
Not only do barrels come in different lengths, the barrel shrouds come in different configurations. For example you can have plain, heavy, vent rib or vent rib heavy. Yours and mine in that photo above are VH or Vent rib heavy
Most of my Dan Wessons are bigger calibers than 357 Magnum but here are some of my spare barrels and shrouds
If you look over the various auction sites, you will soon see that the V or vent rib and the VH are the most popular configurations.
Dan Wesson's tensioned barrel design is what is responsible for the Legendary accuracy they were know for during the golden age of Metallic Silhouette
This 357 SuperMag has a slotted barrel shroud so that it could be light weight enough to qualify for Silhouette competition
Here is one of my 41 Magnums wearing one of the early red dot sights
Just for fun, here is my Maxwell Smart inspired suppressed Dan Wesson wearing a 2" barrel
These are Great revolvers and that is a more than fair price looking at the condition in the picture you posted.
If you are a 357 Magnum shooter do not pass on one that clean looking
I am almost tempted to PM you for the name of the shop so I can drive over to pick it up for myself.

For $550 for a Monson, MA produced DW, I would have been all over that one like ugly on a Glock.

A Dan Wesson Pistol Pac is the equivalent of 4-5 revolvers in one.
Interchangeable barrels are THE distinguishing features of Dan Wessons.
A long-8" barrel-in .357 almost takes you back to 1935, the .357 was originally developed in a 8 3/4" barrel.

Wish I'd bought it now. Guess I missed out.
Not as bad as a year or so ago when I didn't want to drive 2 hours for a no dash 63 listed as mint condition with the original box and everything that came in it for $500.

$550! Heck I would have broke my arm getting my wallet out. I can't think of anywhere you can get a nicer revolver for a better price. Don't knock the long barrels until you try to shoot something far away, you cannot beat a long sight radius.
I have that same gun I bought last year for the same price. I don't expect to be seeing any more any time soon either.

Since its been brought up......
There is currently a local listing here for a DW 15-2 Pistol Pack. Includes the gun with what appears to be 3,4 & 6" barrels, three sets of grips (Target, service & aftermarket) all the tools and in the original padded aluminum case. Everything appears to be in very good to excellent condition. Asking price is $1100.
Knowing These older DW's reputation, I've considered buying it. But I know nothing of their current value. So what do y'all think? Should I consider it and how's the price?

I'd say that's a fair price. You could split everything up on ebay and get your money back for sure.

Barrel lengths for the small frame pistol packs (22LR and 357 Magnum) were 2.5", 4", 6", and 8". A pistol pack that has all four barrels and shrouds and the barrel tool for $1100 is a good deal.

That is a good price as long as the blueing has not turned plumb.

There was also a 15" barrel, had one and like an idiot sold it, rare indeed.
Worth about 10 times what I got for it now......got in a financial bind and had to let it go. Many of us have been there.

If you want a DW just keep your eye on Gun Broker. $550 was not a deal of life time especially not really being able to tell the condition
I bought a beautiful 6" 22LR that looks like it was never shot for $515 not long ago.

Yeah but on gun broker you can only go by what the seller chooses to show you and tell you. At least when you meet face to face there’s still a chance to back out without handing your money over first.

All depends how you handle it. I rarely rely solely on the add content that was posted. Most sellers are more than happy to respond, I doubt to many want to sell you a firearm you are not happy with just to make a sale.

Bottom line to this tread is Wood714 missed out on a great revolver at a far price . Could have bought a shorter barrel and shroud from EWKarms and sold the 8" for more than the EWKarms version would have cost .

Every blued DW that I have ever seen, other than fresh from the factory, has had some degree of plumb color in the bluing, mostly the frame. It's a "feature" of DW frames.

My palmer fixed barrel 3" isn't plum and my 15-2 from the late 70s doesn't look plum to me either. My 375 super mag does have a lot of plum in it though.

You must not have looked at enough Dan Wessons
The percentage of PLUM frames is way below 100%
Of the 5 blue Dan Wessons that I currently own only one of my SuperMags has a plum frame
All of the others have a beautiful deep, rich, glossy blue
Those are the only two blue ones that I have photographed
