Colt SAA New Frontier...
1982 or so NIB Colt New Frontier.
I popped because it is in 44 special.
I prefer the traditional SAA's but all seem to
keep climbing in price.

Nice ! I would really like to have one just like it. Range report would be great.

I rarely even see these Colt’s at shows anymore, much less see them for sale—at any price.

I really like those, more so than the standard SAA but then I’m a shooter. .44 is a bonus in my book! Enjoy!

I've only seen a very few of these in my whole life. Although I was sorely tempted, I always passed because every one of them had that unwieldy 7 1/2" barrel that is not only too long. but makes the gun ugly. I just simply don't care for handgun barrels longer than about 6-6 1/2".
Yours is the first one I've ever seen with a shorter barrel. Congratulations on an excellent find!

Colt New Frontier
I’ve never understood why that version isn’t as popular as the SAA. But that’s ok, they’re cheaper. Ain’t happy with 45 Colt. I kinda like the 7.5” barrel.

A New Frontier .44 Special with a 4 3/4" barrel would be my ideal. I've had to "settle" for two Rugers so configured so far. Your gun is fabulous!

Has to be one of the very few guns, if not the only gun, where the target version sells for less than the standard frame. The finish on the New Frontiers is often superior to the standard frame 3rd generation SAA’s as well. Very nice find in the 5.5” barrel!

Great find. I have one as well. I really like the adjustable sights for use on a field gun that you actually want to hit something with. Mine is accurate. That said, I have used mine very little do to the rising cost and value of these Colts.
So, I bought a USFA SA .44 spl with the intent of fitting a J frame adjustable sight, to replace the Colt as a woods packing gun. Then USFA went out of business, and now their guns are bringing as much, or more than the Colts.
So, both guns remain fair weather / limited use guns, and my Ruger SA's get carried a lot more in the woods.

I only have two SAA's, the New Frontier in .44 Special and the standard model in .45 Colt. The .45 is from 1978, I have never been able to date the .44 serial number 082xxNF but it is probably from the same period.

Those 7.5 inch barrels point like a laser and I find it almost hard not to get kill zone hits in silhouette targets at 15 yards, in rapid pointed fire.

Swell sixgun! Looks the pride of any shootist! I prefer original style fixed sights on a SAA but I’ll admit, those adjustas look really well done!! Bet that gun wasn’t cheap! You going to shoot it, maybe pack it?

The Great Colt New Frontier
Congratulations. The Colt New Frontier is a Great Revolver,
and is my favorite Colt, along side the Bisley Revolver.
The NF is Unique and I like the Adjustable Sights.
I don't know what it was, but about 8 years ago, our Local
Gun Shop, some how for about 4 years, once a year would
would get in a Colt New Frontier.
I had a chance to buy three over the years. They were the
5-1/2" Barrel model. They were priced around $1300.
One first one was a 2008 45Colt. I passed because there
was Machine Marks across the side of the Cylinder Window.
Finish and Fit was so, so.
Second one, circa 2009 44Rem Special. Beautifully made.
Color Case Hardening and Bluing on par with the United
States Fire Arms. I passed, must of had something else
going on.
Third one, circa 2010 44Rem Spl. This one the Fit, Finish,
and Box (and all) was Perfect. Again the Dumbest thing
ever, I passed.
I still kick my self. I have never seen one at the LGS since.
The LGS must have a "in" with Colt because they get several
Brand New SAA Colts in a year.
Anyway, Thank you for Sharing and the Pictures and the
memories.

The info I have for the 3rd Gen New Frontier Ser#'s:
1978 01001NF - 04424NF (production started in Sept of '78)
1979 04425NF = 06274NF
1980 06275NF -11374NF
1981 11375NF - 16584NF
1982 16584NF - ? ..(production disc in '82 but I don't know what month or end#)
All 3rd Generation N/Frontiers have a 5 number serial# plus the 'NF' suffix.
The '0' is considered part of the serial number on the earlier production.
2nd Gen New Frontiers have a 4 number ser# plus the 'NF' suffix,
2nd Gen N/F production started in 1961 (# 3000NF) and ran into 1975.
This is from my own notes so there may be some error.
That Colt ser# look up site doesn't seem to be too helpful in handling these. Either no hit or you get a yr that is way off from production.

Thanks everyone.
I found this in Cablea's of all places.
They received 3 Colt SAA's from an estate.
I missed a new production Colt "Storekeeper"
by an hour.
I was reminded of Cablea's by sigp220's thread a week
or so ago and thought I would stop by.
I had a few bucks in their reward points so drive out was..
$1450.00 no smoking deal by any means but close enough
for a NIB Colt SAA.
And yes...I will shoot it won't likely pack it much.

Now that's a good snag there! Same thing for me about a month ago, stumbled across a NIB 5 1/2" 1981 vintage New Frontier and couldn't pass it up as it is in "you got it" .44 Special. The cylinder throats are a bit over sized at .433" but it shoots my .430" Lyman #429421 cast bullets quite nicely. Fit and finish are good but the action REALLY needs some work. Enjoy that one!

I love mine, which is also chambered in .44 Special. I carry it when I am hunting or just out checking fences at the ranch……

Mic-
The Randall knife is a Model 15 with Border Patrol handle? Type C sheath?
And I'm sure that some will want to know who made the holster, too.
